I have an older DLP HLN 4365 that was once repaired under warranty for flickering. It is now doing it again.
It only happens when the set warms up. The flickering is accopanied by a chirping sound from the back of the tv. The chirping resembles the sound your computer makes when it is ''thinking'' Know what I mean?
All three fans are working. the bulb seems fine.
I believe the light engine was replaced the first time. Any idea how to change the engine if that is the problem???
Thanks
John

The color wheel is the most common problem when it comes to noise from DLP's. To determine if it is a color wheel or fan: Turn on the set. When the noise starts, turn off the set. If the noise goes away within 5 seconds, then the color wheel is bad. If the noise goes away after one to one and a half minutes after the set was shut off, then one of the fans are making the noise.

Hi,
Based on your general description, it could be:
1. loose connection or cold solder on any of the connectors and/or boards specially those related to power;
2. heat related - at some point, the heat generated inside the unit could cause a component failure or worsen a cold solder/loose connection;
3. a component is about to fail - on most Samsung projection TVs, this would be the DM board. Exhibited symptoms would be screen flickers (white flashes) and in some instances after about a minute the screen gradually turns very very bright (almost white) from the bottom of the
screen to the top.
Any
of the above would require familiarity with electronic circuitry and
components, use of a DVM and a soldering iron as well as access to a
service manual or at the very least a schematic diagram with voltage
readings. Should you be uncomfortable venturing into a DIY, perhaps
your best bet would be to seek the services of a qualified professional.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.
Good luck and kind regards.
Thank you for using FixYa.

Please recheck component connections in both units and make sure to hook up them according to corresponding colors like blue to blue, red to red and orange to orange.

Verify color wheel is reconnected, color wheel needs to get up to speed before lamp strikes
SOURCE: Samsung DLP model hln617w won't turn on (not bad bulb)
Samsung is notorious for having bad color wheels in their DLPs. Well lets just say they are like toasters, they only last a certain amount of time. If the color wheel isn't spinning or is broken, the set will power down almost immediately after you hit the button, you may not even hear the entire fire up jingle. Check the wheel, if you can see the bulb light up for that split second. Actually, check it whether the bulb lights up or not.

Now the flickering is happening as soon as I turn on the TV. I think this may be because the set is plugged directly into an outlet and not into a switched outlet on the cable box like before.
