Question about LG DU-42PX12XC 42 in. Plasma HDTV
About two weeks ago my flat panel plasma tv developed an inch wide red line from top to bottom. Today it appeared on the left side. Now I have one on each side. Please help me. The tv is only a year old.
I had the same problem and fixed it by replacing the control board. It's a little nerve wracking, but required only simple hand tools. If you'd like to see detailed pictures of the repair check out my blog.

According to Electonia-USA.com the Upgraded Control Board (060Q & 038C) does not require a BIOS Flash to work, at lest for the Vizio's.
LG Manual stated vertical lines are a cause of defective Control Board (038A)

I was able to hit the resistor packs with a little heat and it worked! I wish I could find the post that had the picture of the resistor packs in question, but looking at the 6871QCH038A its the resistors on the lower half of the board. You don't have to put the soldering gun next to the resistor packs, just as close as you can get to the solder points, then running the soldering gun down each side for about 2-3 seconds a side. Once I did that, I put the circuit board back in, reconnected it and turned on the TV and it worked! Whoever had that post with the pictures helped me out a LOT! Thanks!

My LG 50" is not a year old and it is doing the same thing as all of these others. It is sooo aggravating. Now I have two thin red lines and one blue one in the middle from top to bottom on the right hand side. Do I really have to replace the control board??? This TV is so heavy.

John sellers you are da man!!! I ordered the 38C Board from Parts.com ($130.75 shipped--received in 2 days) and followed your perfect instructions and pictures. It took me 1.5 hours (no problems) and the TV is like new! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

I am working on a 42PX12XC and found that the latest replacement for the control board (038A) is the 060Q part, same beginning part # of 6871QCH ...
I found this module at tristatemodule, but they only had one left (so I ordered it). There are several other places only selling this module and sometimes even on ebay.
When is in question to me is whether the control board alone can be replaced, or if it would also be best to replace the ysus and zsus boards at the same time.
I don't know what generation panel this officially is, but I know for LG 7th gen panels, they sell a repair kit which is the ysus, zsus and control board ... for a fairly low (LG subsidized) price point when compared to buying the boards individually.
I'm hearing that the LG control boards should only be used in LG panels. I lot of other brands: i.e. samsung, vizio are using these same parts ... and they are failing a lot ... but the control board may not be swappable for non-LG set (or require a BIOS flash for the brand your using).
I will post back here if the control board (replacement) alone works on the LG panel mentioned above.

Many LG Plasmas have 2 year warranties. I would find out if yours is one. it sounds like a possible panel which is really bad. At least it is a Scan/driver problem which will still cost hundreds. If your set does not have 2 years but is only a bit over a year call LG and yell real loud they will extend it.

All problems with vertical bar come from the circuit board 6871QCH038A. You find this board in rear of the tuner board.
This is explain by an user on this site if you look for solve problem DU-42PX12X with photo.
I get the same problem with vertical blue bar on the right side of my screen. The problem is in the little resistor. I try to repair by solder but it's verry little part and unable to resolve the problem. I buy an author board 6871QCH038A. Now, my plasma work verry well. I paie $188 CDN for this board.

Most like likely, this is a panel issue and it will be too cost to fix.
Other things you can try, reseating the ribbon cables on the buffer boards located running across either the top or bottom or both. If that doesn't do it, replace those boards and still no luck. Panel is bad.
