Emachine - T6420 - Monitor on stand by, no picture, fan running non stop, hard drive power on, screen blank, monitor in yellow not green the programs would end after 10 seconds---if you opened programs/application one coud see them for 10 seconds then all applications would shut down--2 days later--- now--i am left with just a blank screen, fan and hard drive powering up, main fan that usually turns after after 10 seconds- stay on permanete, monitor= yellow buttin, blank. Is this the video card and if so how do I purchase a new one or used one?

    How do I test the monther board? - I have no clue...only noise we hear is fan, cd drive and hard divel they turn on. cd drive loads-blinking lights, emachine blue light is on and is blue on the big E



    but below it --thr big E---the thinking light the little light that blinks yellow when the computer thinks - is not turning on at all- no light.

    TRIED PLUGGING IN HEAD PHONES NO LIGHT, TRIED THUMP DRIVE NO LIGHT, -cell phone did not recognize being plugged in via a usb cord.

All the E-machine computers I've worked on had the video as part of the motherboard. You might try borrowing a pci video card from someone and intalling it just to test. My solution is to buy a new computer if it won't work anymore, Walmart sells them for $300 to $400 with a monitor now days.

Most likely your video card is broken. To check if the motherboard isnt broken either, I would suggest you test usb, sound, and other features of the motherboard.
 If your motherboard isnt broken then you have to buy a "pci-e graphics card" at your local store. Shouldnt cost much, about $40-70. Hope that helps.

    Test a usb port, turn on the computer, and get something that uses the usb port. If you can tell that its working, then its not broken.


    Or connect your speakers to the computer, see if they make any sound when the computer is on.


    Reply back when you test it.

    Im not sure if im right, but judging by what you said, i think your motherboard might be broken, and if it is, it means you either need to buy a new motherboard (same model ~$100) or a new computer.


    You can always buy a cheapo PCI-E graphics card to be 100% sure that the motherboard is broken. If you do decide to buy the graphics card, turn on the computer, let it on for 5 minutes, then restart the computer, let it on again, and see if windows pops up.

Most comon problem with monitors are bad caps in the power supply, any good reapair shop should be able to fix them easily, see pictures of failed monitors due to bad caps: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
At least you will have some info so you will not get ripped off by repair shops.

Power on emachine T6420 and moniter is blank. The moniter soon loses contact with the computer. The fan run and power is OK there is no beep code.
If you mean after the computer performs the self test the screen goes blank and stays blank, eventually turning off you are having a hard drive problem. When the computer boots you should see an E-Machines logo and/or a self test on the screen. That is done by the motherboard as part of every boot up. After that the motherboard passes control to your boot device and loads your operating system. If your computer stops booting at that point, your boot device is not working properly. That could be caused by many things - virus, hardware failure, power outage. If you really mean you see nothing at all on the screen when you press the power button your computer simply is not working at all. Open the case, blow all the dust out of it and reseat all components you can, then try again.

Problem with my emachine T6420
This problem comes due to problem with RAM and CMOS.

first you get RAM outside the CPU and clean properly by brush,and put into the RAM SLOT.

it work.
otherwise ,you have to change RAM.

Gateway GX7018E / T6420 = swap video cards for a test?????
No you cant, the gateway GX7018E uses integrated graphics like the T6420. You will have to buy a cheap PCI or PCI-E graphics card to test it out.

here as u say the problem is actuly not a video card problem some time power plug or power connector problem make yr pc problem first u need to chek power connecter or power cable is ok or not then try to clean RAM if dust jam on ram that time it's not display and last on list is chek yr cpu fan is conneted propper or not yr pc has a AMD proceaser so it need to cool it's help u..:)

if u try to perchase new video card then u need PCI express card..

Hi, i am workiing on an emachine T6420 for my brother and this thing starts up with the fans running and a black screen. my monitor that i connected to his computer shows a yellow standby light on the...
That's exactly what it sounds like. I would put in a new video card (or used one, if you have one) into one of the expansion slots and run it from there.

I would suggest to go into VGA mode just to make sure, but since your monitor never even gets off standby, I'd be 99% it's the onboard video.
