New motherboard...freezes up...now has black screen

  • Anonymous May 31, 2013

Thank you for the effort, Grant, but that wasn't the problem....last time my motherboard got fried, it left me with a solid blue screen. This is black and it would start to boot up then everything went silent and the screen went black... Well, I was working on finding a fix on why my laptop was soooo slow and came across an article talking about how it transit, the RAM memory boards may have gotten jarred and cause them to not be seated right.....which would then cause a black screen. well I finally got tired of putting up with the slowness and the other night, I opened up my pc box. I pulled the clips back on the RAM and pushed them in firm and clipped them down to my satisfaction that they were seated right. Then decided to check other wiring.... had some wires that were working their way off the pins and the SATA plug in to the hard drive was just totally sloppily loose...there couldn't be a good connection running through that.....don't know why it became so loose...will have to check it out closer to see if it's the cord or the hd connection..... anyways....checked all the other wiring too and made sure everything was plugged in the correct places...unplugged all connecting wires and cords going to and from the outside of the box and monitor and hooked them all back up again...turned on my monitor, then turned on my power for the pc and it started to boot up and I noticed the screen said I needed to check my bios for incorrect data. so I entered my setup screen...had the wrong time and somehow was in March of 2004 so I set the time and date right and checked the rest of the bios and it booted up. WOW!!! (Big Smile) So I decided to put the side back on the box and it has a cone-shaped shroud on the panel that fits over the fan and heat sink....and when I was fitting it back on, I could feel the shroud hitting resistance from some wiring in there and it caused the wiring to hit the fan blades so I backed off right away, but the fan blades hitting the wires was enough to cause something to vibrate loose again and everything shut down again....so I went through the wiring again and this time haven't secured the side back on, just have it leaning against it. ... so far no problems....;...besides my internal clock being years behind, I'm pretty sure it was loose wiring and possibly my front panel wires were not sitting on the correct JP1 pins. Took me a while to do this because a majority of my computer stuff including all my owner manuals for components and all my notebooks with wiring schematics and data specs and all my OEM discs were stolen. I'm not a tech and had to go by memories of long ago..... :/ lol thank you all for your input!!! does anyone know where I can find a good basic standard motherboard wiring schematic that I could print up and keep for reference... I tried the MSI.com site but my mb mdl # brought no results. thanks again!!!

Could be a possible hardware problem. When you say new motherboard, was there an issue with your old one? Were you given the exact same model?

Also, maybe an issue with your power supply.

The old one got fried in a power outage...I didn't know my old boyfriend had changed the plug to the cheaper power strip.... I just read yesterday on facebook that McAfee had just discovered a new deadly virus that is offered up with an update to Windows Live and when clicked on it will completely wipe out the 0 sector of the hard drive.... I think I remember clicking on an update for Windows Live...if my 0 sector of my hard drive got killed, would I get a completely black screen? (I don't hear my hard drive booting up either)

Keyboard not working on my Dv9700

Try using a USB keyboard. If that doesn't work, I'll have an indication of possible causes. I want to isolate the keyboard from possible motherboard problems.

If polarity is OK in battery section, then I think you have faulty mouse. Unless user manual states otherwise, I would return to seller for replacement.

My hp tx2120 us was upgraded to windows 7 and has been working great for several months. Now it won't boot up. The lights on the volume control light up, the fan turns on, but the screen remains black....

You may have finally run into the dreaded "defective GPU" issue, that plagued HP and other manufacturers. Thousands of defective Nvidia chip sets were used in the manufacture of these laptops and if you got one of these, it would last about a year, then fail, in the just the way you describe. If you were out of warranty, HP took the low road and refused to fix them, unless you ponied up $450. Then they replaced the defective motherboards with a new one, with exactly the same component.

If you have one of these, you will better of buying a new machine. I'd avoid HP though.

Screen freeze.

1. you need to install the pc software 2. you need to connect the system to your pc via the usb cable 3. switch the system on - it should be seen as a mass storage. 4. Start PVR Console and run a disk checkup - this should run without error - run this twice. 5. Try the unit now - does it work?
