Blank screen I own a JVC GR-D70U It performance was fantastic until one day the screen blank when trying to record either still or video,however I can play back. HELP ANYONE

i have a jvc GR.D20EK and am having problems when recording, it plays back but i cannot record it will play recorded tapes can anyone help me. Thanx

Hi, I am not sure. But I believe the camcorder has to be on when you connect to the computer. and I assume you use firewire for this particular camcorder.
I too once had this problem when I used Windows Vista. If you too use Vista, try it with Windows XP.

The ccd block is starting to fail. Thats the chip thats the eye of the camcorder at the back of the lense assy. Its mounted on a small circuit board. You can find the chip at parts.com. Its just a matter of dissassembling the camcorder and removing the chip from the board and soldering another onto it taking care not to over heat the chip. You do need good soldering skills.

If the camera becomes damp or cold and brought into a warm atmosphere damp forms in the mechanism which would cause the tape to stick and become damaged or fouled.

leave the camera to warm up for a few hours and the fault should clear.

If not the most common reason is the dew sensor has failed and needs replacing

Hi, the problem U have is the imager. reason: it is the way Sony made the imager... the gold lead wires would pop off the chip without warning. So go to JVC's site. they will fix it for free.

Most models of cameras have a built in feature to give you a message and turn off if it has condensation on the inside components. Powering back on during this period can cause damage to components. It should remain off in a warm dry area. Condensation might occur in high humidity, or when switching from a cool location to a warmer place. Try cleaning your video heads with a "cleaning tape" let it play for 10 seconds then pause. If that solves nothing your camera may have permanent damage in which case JVC or a repair shop will have to replace parts.

Apparently this same problem exists on many different models. I have a JVC grd72u. I called JVC @ 800-252-5722. I selected the "Corrective Action Program" prompt from the automated attendent. I spoke to a customer service rep. They are aware of the problem and are fixing it for free, but only until 12/31/07. I suggest you call ASAP and get your name in the computer. If the problem is something besides the CCD sensor, they will call you with the estimate to repair.

It's ... a. A broken connection. b. A failed chip or component. It is not something an owner usually can repair.
