I used to see this a lot. If you are using a cigarette lighter to power it, check to make sure the cigarette lighter socket works. Try a cell phone charger or something else that uses that plug. If the socket works, then skip a few sentences down. If it does not work, then first check the socket. Often times things the gps chargers break or unscrew and leave parts inside the socket and that causes a connection issue. If the hole is clear and we get no power with anything else, then it is a fuse, usually. If you have your manual, then check you car manual for fuse locations. Often cars come with spare fuses in the fuse location. If you do not feel comfortable checking, Best Buy, Autozone, Pepboys, and auto place can check. I would say take it to a place that does car audio. They usually never charge.
If the socket worked and the gps does not, check the cable for any wear. The cable for that is a usb. You can plug it into your pc and see if it works that way. If that works then it is the cable and you find those at most electronic stores. If it does not come on with a new cable it is the gps. If that is the case, then I say get a new one.
