I have been installing car audio for over 40 years.A small adapter like you use to charge a phone,Doe,s not have enough amps in it to run the deck (Properly) When you crank up the vollume, The deck will cut out, You Can buy a bigger 12 Volt power supply from radio shack or the source that will power it (Properly) It should be at least 3 amp output .

SOURCE: powering a pioneer head unit

You can not connect this to an A/C voltage. The radio will not work. In fact it will destroy many internal parts. It must have a D/C voltage supply of about 14.4 volts. That is what it was designed for.

But if you like smoke and fire, it could be fun to watch (just kidding).

Seriously now, what you need is a D/C power supply that is rated for about 10 amps.

The accessory and remote wire does not need to be connected to anything if you are using it in your home. But it does need to be insulated from contacting anything conductive.

The negative ground wire (black) need to be connected to the negative (black) terminal of a power supply. the yellow and red wires are for the positive (red) terminal of the power supply. Then you just need the speakers to be connected and the antenna plugged in. You can use an old car antenna that still has the cord and jack connected to it for the antenna. The speaker wires are color coded in pairs, white and grey are front and the green and violet are rear speakers. The wire with the black stripe is the negative speaker wire and the solid color is the positive.

I hope this was helpful to you, and if it was a good rating like"fixya" is a great way for you to say thanks for the free advice.

let me know if you need any more help,

Dave

MY MXR STEREO CHORUS LED LIGHT START TO FADE AFTER CONNECT WITH DC BRICK! DOES THIS MEAN MY PEDAL WILL HAVING ANY DEFECT?

I don't know what you mean by "DC Brick"...

The MXR Stereo Chorus unit requires a special 18 Volt power adapter. The common 9 volt pedal power adapters will NOT work with this device. If you have batteries in the unit, when you plug in an incorrect adapter, the unit disconnects from the batteries and the caps discharge so the light will fade.

You will need to use: ECB-004 18-volt AC Adapter Best to use the manufacture's exact device for this one.

Wish to take laptop travelling for an extended period and wish to know if it can be operated off the 12 volt car circuit, the battery dosent hold charge for more than 15 minutes.

Yes you can - purchase a 12 Volt DC to 110 Volt AC converter (you can get at Staples or Home Depot). This will allow you to plug your adapter into the converter while it's plugged into the cigarette lighter jack in the car.

1996 Cavalier 12 Volt power outlet in car doesn't work right?

Even thought the plug in is 12 volt. It's ouput is different. Most electronics have different ranges from 3-9 volts.
Does the 12 volt charger put out 12 volts? If so, it would burn up the electronics' capacitors on their power supplies.
How is the car's electronics doing? Are they too failing? If so, that would be a faulty voltage regulator, if not, I would hook up anything you use to the radio wires.
You cannot plug in anything directly to battery no matter what the person told you. Batteries charge, than release charge, a contiuous cycle. The power output is speratic and anything hooked straight up to the battery will need a fuse.

The second cable is the Power Supply Adapter cable. The information listed on the Power Supply Adapter is listed below. P/N 490081-03 Input 120 Volt @ 60 Hz 0.3 amps Output DC 12 Volts @ 1 Amp Model # RWP481212 You should be able to get the scanner to work as long as you can find any power supply that has the listed Input/Output ratings, an adapter that will plug into the scanner. Hope this help you. disaksen

Nothing from amp

The RCA "plugs" should be in an OUTPUT of the radio (sometimes they are INPUTS, like for an MP3 player..). Go to Sears or somewhere similar and buy an inexpensive Multimeter. Set it to DC volts and place the black lead on the GND termunal of the amp. With the red lead on the BAT terminal you should read roughly 12 volts always. With the car running and radio on, place the red on the REM terminal and again you should see 12 volts. If not it's the wiring. If the voltage is 12 on both then the amp is likely damaged.
