Traxxas Vxl 3s ESC turns on when I plug in the battery, get a quick green light, then red, then it blinks red through the training, racing, and normal running modes. Its at this point I try to press the button and nothing happens, it just blinks red through the modes and wont let me select any one of them. holding the button down does nothing, the only way to turn it off is to unplug the battery. Model wont run, but I have full steering.
It sounds like it might just be a case of the button being stuck. The ESC shouldn't turn on just from you plugging in the battery, you're supposed to have to press the button once the battery's connected to power up the ESC.

Try to only hold the button down for a half of a second. If you hold it longer it will go into profile selection mode.

mine did exactly the same thing, I didnt realize something was wrong until I put my heat monitor on it, first was 127 c then jumped to 175, before I could unplug everything it went "pop" . traxxis said send it back for repairs (50bucks ugh) .
I am not going to run Li Po (the 11.1 volt anyway) . I dont think the esc is strong enough, I will let you know what traxxis says.
