planar pdp42bk has black lines top to bottom. I read it could be bad y drive connections. I looked at those last night. Kinda burnished the board ends before plugging them back in. The problem is still there. those boards are marked upper and lower drivers does that mean left to right. the bars are middle and right side. thsnks.

Does the lines go from north to south the entire length of the screen? and is the TV's internal on screen display affected by the problem? Once i know this then I can tell you exactly where the problem is.

I had a Planar Model PDP42HD with the same problem.
Two sections of the display has gone black.
The section is about 6-8" wide and goes from the bottom of the display to mid screen.
I took it to an authorized repair shop and they said the board was going out.

Contact the factory again, or get a new TV(NEW BRAND)

*Your vote is highly be appreciated. I hope this will help you. Drop me a comment if you still have problems. I will help you.

Only place you will get one is on ebay, or direct from the manufacture would be best. I can't find one on ebay at the moment but my guess is a few hundred dollars at least.Good luck.

This problem will need to be diagnosed by a technician as it can come from several different things, the most common being the mainboard and least common a display problem.

Did you check the main power board and power cord; try a new extension board for it.

Thanks for using FixYa

There are some general cause of the problem like;Due to high voltage, low voltage, due to some magnetic field or due to some short circuit.
If the cause is none of them than you need a service man for diagnose the problem because no way to diagnose from here.

    Thanks for using FixYa.

Hi there, vertical bars on plasma are caused by several problems, most commons are:

Sustain card fault

lower buffer fault

Digital control board (main board) fault.

Cable problem.

Rarely you can also have this because of display problem.

The TV must be tested by a technician to fix the problem.

I suggest contacting the factory again, and asking if they can still ccover the repair, if not contact a local technician, and ask a quote for repair.
Unless the problem is the plasma display, that is quite unlikely, the tv is still be worth repairing.

Hi there
Try to reset the TV back to factory state, this may resolve the issue for you, also leave the TV off and disconnected from the mains for 20 mins or so.
If this does not work you may have to have the IC board repaired again

good luck and kind regards

Sounds like it could be a driver problem. I would try to update the driver from the Intel website, and see if that helps. If that doesn't work for you, then the screen itself or possibly the lcd cable or connection on the motherboard may be where the issue lies.

Monitor displays wide vertical stripes/bands

That is the symptom of failed T-CON board (part of the LCD panel assembly, new panel will be needed), you can try reseating the ribbon connector on the LCD panel first.
This what T-CON board looks like:

Tv turns off will turn on then off right away

the internal overload sensor is engaging to protect the system. The parts cost to replace the faulty board is about $70 But you need the skills to open the tv and change it I recommend you get a professional to do it More expensive of course but a lot safer.

I have a 42' LG plasma that has now has a 1 1/2 inch verticle stripe on the right side. It used to come and go but now rarely goes away. Any ideas?

I believe that this could be a type of "burn in". If you watch anything with a black stripe on the sides or bottom of the screen often, then this could be the problem. My suggestion is to watch things that have no black side bars for a while (>week) and see if this eliminates the problem.
Good Luck!!

A bar code stripe on the right side of the copy.

i'm not sure if you're talking about a solid black band or a bunch of little stripes running down page. does it happen when you run an internal report or only on copies? if its a black solid band, check and make sure the bluish colored tab on top of the drum is all the way to the left side. if its a group of fine lines, depending on whether it happens on internal reports or not, it could be the drum is going bad or you may have a bad scanner. write back with a little more info if this suggestion doesn't work.

good luck,

Planar PDP42BK no picture

Check the 15v line that runs through all the boards, left, right and top.. If that has no power, then look on the ysus board (left one) there is a flyback reg (5pin) standard to-220 case surrouded by caps, it does dc to ac conversion, if you dont have the 15v output then the chip is bad. I just did 2 of these that had the same problem.
