Simple power hack, to do this, kind of like hot wiring your computer.

Turn the power on at the wall, Flick the switch on the back of the computer (if there is one on the back) to the on position, make sure the cable is plugged in, and turn the power off at the wall, hold the power switch on the front and turn the power on at the wall.

This will cause the power to jump across the switch, causing the computer so sound a bit like a motorbike being started.

The power will come on it will turn over click and go off. After this turn the switch of at the back of the computer, and turn it back on, and the computer will boot up.

The first bit of this is just charging the capacitors in the power supply, the second bit is turning your computer on.

Unlocking my computer

Assuming you mean the 'BIOS Password', turn off & UNPLUG the power cable. Then open the case, find the little silver battery 'coin cell' battery (type CR2032) = on the moherboard, make a note which way round it is & and remove it for a coiple of miniutes.
After putting it back in, when you next power up, you will have to eneter the current time & date into the BIOS..

It won 't turn on

check your power cords, check your outlets, check your surge protector, check the switch on the back of the pc. there may be a black toggle switch with a circle and a line, make sure it's flipped to the line side. if all that is normal, unplug the cord from the computer and open up the case. look at all your power plugs and make sure they're all secure, try and reseat the 1 or 2 main plugs, there should be a rectangular 12 pin plug and maybe a 4 pin plug. unplug them and then plug them back in. put the case back together plug it in, and give it a go. if still nothing then you have to troubleshoot whether the power supply is junk or if your motherboard died. we'll move on to that if it comes up. good luck!

There should be 2 rows of pins in parallel usually around the bottom edge of the motherboard. The markings for which is which should be next to them on the board. HDled+, HdLed-, PwrSw, PwrLed, or something similar.

If you do find them but the hard drive Led does'nt come on it's because the plug for it needs to be turned around the opposite way, Led's only work one way as they are diodes. Same for the Power Led.

If there are no letters near the pins then you would have to find the motherboard manual.

My compaq presario sr2010nx desktop won't turn on. I tried fooling with the off/on switch wiring and it came on for a short time. All was well. I hadn't used it for a week and tried to turn it...

Hi.

Sounds more like a power supply problem. First test the on/off switch by tracing the wires to where it connects to the mother board. The plug is usually marked "pwr sw" . Unplug the wire from the board & short out the 2 pins where the switch was plugged in using a small screw driver or any other conductive material. If the pc still fails to turn on, try replacing the power supply.
Best wishes,
