How do I turn on wireless capabilities for a Dell Inspiron 1525?

Well it has wireless capabilities and is wireless ready, however when it was being worked on the wireless capabilities were turned off. On my older dell there was a button to turn it back on, this one does not have one. I am just wondering how to turn them back on after they have been turned off.

On the right-hand side near the cd rom drive, there is a switch that moves back and forth. move it towards the back of the computer. that should turn on your wireless capabilities. A wi-fi manager screen should pop and and you should be good to go.

Here is the answer... (For Vista)

Go to the icon at the bottom right yellow/blue arrows (Dell Quickset) Open it.

Then go WiFi Catcher/radio controls (click it to open it).
Then go to "advanced settings" at the bottom of the pop up (open it - click it).
Then select the TAB "Radio Control Options"
Then UN-check all the radios and wifi, then apply, then OK. Your green bars should work now...

Good luck!

Check to see if the computer had wireless capabilities built in, otherwise you will need to buy a wireless adapter for the laptop.

  • Anonymous Jan 02, 2009

If you are using a Windows OS, you should be able to go to the control panel, and select "connect to." from there you should be able to see if you can get onto a wireless network, but If you are unable, im not exactly sure because as you stated im only familiar with the laptops that have the button to turn it off or on.

SOURCE: CANNOT CONNECT WIRELESS MOUSE TO DELL INSPIRON 1525

this is a bluetooth mouse, if you have used it before then you'll need to remember how to sync it with your computer ( you should have some sort of bluetooth manager window that will be able to find the moue and communicate with it.
If you haven't used it before you might not have bluetooth built into that computer ( i have an inspiron 1525 and i don't )in which case you'll need to buy a bluetooth dongle which  will plug into your USB port and will communicate with the mouse for you.  The dongles are pretty cheap though, here is a link to one for 2.54$ http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.11866

Hi dalemarkie20,

How are you doing? Please try to reinstall the wireless driver of your dell inspiron 1525 to check if that is a driver problem. You can download the wireless driver from support.dell.com.

Hope that helps. Thank you for using FixYa!

The first step will to be to make sure the switch is on. It is on the right side of the computer. Once this is on, you should see the wireless icon in the bottom right side near the time. Click on it and select a wireless network.

Hi I'm tryjng to turn on the wireless switch it keeps saying I need to turn on wireless capabilities

Have you tried the FN + F2 key combo? I think the Dell's all use a hotkey rather than a hardware switch.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525. I had to reinstall Windows Vista. It has WiFi capabilities. I cannot figure out how to turn it on. The WiFi switch on the right side is turned on.

Go to support.dell.com- you likely need to reinstall the driver for your wireless card. Once that is done, it should be able to function again.

Dell Inspiron 1525 cannot connect and says I need to turn on wireless capability using function key combination - what is it?

Hi,

The wireless radio combination should be the Fn+F2 keys to activate it. That is to hold down Fn and hit the F2 key.

Regards.
