DVD player - Picture goes from color to black and white

The TV and VCR give color picture when used. The DVD player will sometimes start up in black and white and stay in black and white. Other times it will start out in color and after anywhere from a minute to 30 minutes, typically 1 to 5 minutes , screen will change to black and white. I pulled the DVD unit and took the metal covers off and checked visually for any identifiable problem. On the flat ribbon cable that goes from the left side of the DVD player and connects to the PC board that the VCR is mounted on, I saw a 1/4" long section of the ribbon where the plastic coating had been wore off (possibly from a spinning assembly line tool that grazed the ribbon cable), and the copper wire could be seen. After reassembly, the DVD player worked as it did above. I tried moving the ribbon cable while the DVD was playing in black and white but there was no change in the picture so I don't know if the problem is within the ribbon cable or elsewhere in the DVD player and I am not shure where to go next. Thanks

The tv on;y shows a small pip window in color if it is a large picture the picture is in black and white how to fix?

Whatever input video signal you're using, PIP should be in color. What are you using out of your dvd for the second video input source, composite or component? Composite you should always have color, Component, if you have a bad red or blue, and just the green is working, you will get black and white. The green is the luminence signal.

I would like to know how to connect a dvd player through my samsung vcr the inputs in the back i am not familiar with there are two sets of yellow white and red connections with one side for output and...

Connect from dvd OUT to vcr IN
The yellow connecter is video, red is right audio and white is left audio.
You can purchase converter leads (scart to phono(the red/white/yellow connecters) or many other combinations) if needed.
If you have scart connections ( a block of 21 pins) then use that if possible as it will give a better picture.
Connect the dvd out to vcr in and vcr out to the tv in.
NOTE. if you connect this way you will find that the copyright protection will make viewing dvds quite poor quality and may even be black and white or even the picture may "roll"
You may want to buy a scart block to connect more scarts to the tv then it has, also you can get these with different connections.

Dvd only playing in black and white

Make sure that you connect all of these connections to the right colored cables.

It seems like you only have the green cable connected. Go back and connect the red and blue for both the tv and dvd.

Color to black and white and back again

Since you're using a composite cable (yellow RCA) that carries both luma (brightness) and chroma (color) information, it's not the cable that is the problem.

That means it's either the DVD player itself, or the TV. If you have another video device (VCR, etc) that you can connect to the TV, try that. If the other device also goes from color to black and white, then it's your TV. Otherwise the problem is your DVD player.

Since your TV only has mono audio (white RCA, but no red) I would recommend getting a new TV if the TV is to blame.

Goodmans tv/video/dvd all in one

Perfect picture on TV, DVD and VCR, but no color means you have selected the wrong color system.Since you are in the UK, make sure that the VCR Color system is also set to PAL. Perhaps it is wrongly set to SECAM?
