How to fix a hanged/frozen/non responsive Pan Digital Novel E-Reader

Hello,

If your Pan Digital Novel Reader... does not respond or hangs, it means the unit/device has frozen. This is a software/OS (operating system) problem.

Usually, resetting should do the fix. To reset, push the hole at the back of the unit with paperclip and the unit will reset. But if you have reset the unit by pushing the small hole at the back with paperclip (which means reset) and that seems not to solve the problem, then it means the operating system of the unit is corrupt. This is a software problem and to fix this problem, you need to install the firmware for your unit.

Firmware helps to remove the corrupt software and re-install a new one. Your unit will be as new once this is done.

Upgrade via PC

This option is for Windows PC only at this time.
With this method, you must connect your pandigital novel to a PC and then run a downloader program which automatically downloads the firmware to your device.
1. On your computer, go to www.pandigital.net/downloads.
2. Choose the "Upgrade with Your PC" option.
3. When asked to Save or Run, select Run.
4. Follow the prompts in the Upgrader window to download the firmware into your device.
5. After the download is complete, turn your device off.
6. Press the Volume + key plus slide the power key on simultaneously for 5 seconds, and then release both.
7. Your device is upgraded and restarts automatically.
8. In the Language setup screen, tap Save with English selected (other languages will be available in future firmware upgrades).
9. In the Date/Time screen, if necessary, tap in the Time Zone, Date, and Time fields to set the correct time for your location. IMPORTANT: In order to connect with your Barnes & Noble online account, the Date and Time must be set correctly according to your location.
10. Tap Save.
11. The HOME screen is displayed.

Re-Upgrade

If you have previously performed a firmware upgrade to your device using one of the above methods, we recommend that you move the existing upgrade file into a different folder before performing another upgrade, which allows you to revert back to the existing version if desired.
1. Connect the device to your computer.
2. In a Windows Explorer or Finder window, create a new folder titled Firmware, and then copy the existing upgrade file into the Firmware folder. (The upgrade file is named similar to SYY_MM_DDK_PD_INX7E_ENG_6410POP.)
3. Perform the new upgrade using one of the methods above.
Revert back to Previous Version
1. Connect the device to your computer.
2. In a Windows Explorer or Finder window, delete the upgrade file from the root, and then copy the upgrade file from the Firmware folder back into the root of the device.
3. Turn your device off.
4. Press the Volume + key plus slide the power key on simultaneously for 5 seconds, and then release both.
5. Your device is upgraded again and restarts automatically.
6. Follow the prompts to re-set your language and date and time.

I hope you found the above helpful.

Regards.

Question: I have a sonicwall CDP 1440i. Does it hold a firewall for my server as well serve as a back up device? or do I need an additional external firewall to support the windows operating system?

It will act as a firewall for essentially anything that is "behind" it. As long as your server and PC are connected to it (or a switch/hub that is connected to it) it will act as the firewall.

You don't need anything additional to support your windows machine.

My router reboots several times a day. Is this a known issue with this device when you have several devices connected over wired and the wireless? I have 1 PC wired. 3 PCs on wireless 1 Wii wireless 2...

Seems like this is a problem with this model, try the following: Upgrade the firmware of your router: ► you may find the exact model number and version number underneath the router itself on one of the stickers. If it's a WRT54G v5 upgrade the firmware, make sure the firmware version is 1.00.9 and above. To find the firmware version: ► open up internet explorer ► on the address bar type in the numbers 192.168.1.1 ( username just leave it blank, password as a default is admin) ► go to the status page: look for the firmware version To download the firmware: ► go to www.linksys.com/downloads ► search for your product model number and version the list ► click on downloads for this product ► firmware ► download firmware ► usually the file you download is a zip file so extract the contents 1st To upgrade the firmware: ► go back to the 192.168.1.1 page ► go to administration ► firmware upgrade ► browse for the files you extracted and use the file that ends with a us_code.bin ► and then just upgrade Then reset the router for 30 seconds and voila ur done with the upgrade! here is Linksys' 2nd level T/S phone# 18668705819 If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.

I need to be able to ping the SonicWall TZ190 wan ip from the Internet for tracert puposes. There is no ping response to that IP address. The manual says. Click Objects, and then Services. Verify that...

Saibrains is correct unless your firmware is of earlier version. you might have to upgrade your firmware. Also you can not use a port #
No ports required for Ping as it uses icmp packets

It needs to allow icmp 'echo-request' (type 8) packets out and icmp 'echo-reply' (type 0) packets in
to allow ping request. On earlier versions of the sonicwall firmware it only absorbed Ping request as to stop hackers from ping attacking pass the firewall.

check the manufactures website for your model and see if they have newwer firmware.

The GUI should have a place where you can set it up

Unit will not resolve DNS

Ditch the Barracuda and use the SonicWall Content Filtering option, it's cheaper anyhow.

Barring that, reset it to default, and make sure that it is using the SonicWall as its gateway, along with the proper DNS settings. Also, check for a firmware upgrade on the unit. I've run into a few Barracudas that have nothign in the knowledge base but a firmware upgrade fixes them.

How to upgrade the firmware on a BEFW11S4

Firmware upgrades may erase all previous settings to your router's configuration. Before upgrading your firmware, make sure to record your settings. 1. Unplug and disconnect all computers from the router except for one. This computer must be plugged into the router directly. There can be no other network activity (wired and wireless) on the router during the upgrade, so be sure to power off all other computers. 2. Go to http://www.linksys.com/download 3. Select the model number of the Linksys router you have. Make sure to select the correct router version as well, as firmware upgrades frequently vary by version. You can find your router version underneath your router after the model number. For example, ?BEFW11S4 ver. 2?. 4. Click the Downloads for this Product button. 5. Once you arrive on the download page, click the Firmware button. 6. After the firmware page opens, click the link that says ?Click here to download the latest firmware...? and download the firmware file to your computer. 7. Once you download the firmware Zip file, unzip it. If you do not have an unzipping program, go to http://www.winzip.com and download WinZip, which will allow you to unzip the file. 8. After unzipping the firmware files, one of them will be called TFTP.EXE. Double click on it. 9. When the ?Upgrade Firmware? window opens, you will have three prompts. The ?Server? field is for the IP address of your router; by default this would be 192.168.1.1. 10. Enter the routers password into the ?Password? field; by default the password is admin. 11. Browse for the file in the Firmware Upgrade utility program by clicking on the button next to file with the '?' symbol on it. Look for the file named 'code.bin' in the folder where the firmware files were extracted to. 12. Highlight the code.bin file and click on the Open button to direct the TFTP loader program to put that file into the "File" box. 13. The full path should be displayed [example: c:\linksys\code.bin]. 14. Click on the Upgrade button to begin the upgrade process. 15. The upgrade should take about 1 minute, and you will be prompted after the upgrade is complete and successful. If you are still having troubles, contact Linksys Technical Support.
