We bought the machine just one month back and it stopped working suddenly. Light also not glowing.. Is there any link between light and the working of the machine? Should we replace the light?

Take it back to the store, get a replacement. If it is under warranty you don't want to be futzing about inside. Just go get another one.

Pop the top open. (push up on each end with thumbs). With the top off and you watch the mechanism as you move the stitch selector up and down you will notice this moves between a forked shaped part on the right side in back that is supposed to click in place back and forth. Its very common for this to be gummed
up. Oil it and keep moving it back and forth and oil it again. It will
start clicking in and you will be in business.

I bought a new sewing machine light bulb to replace the one that burned out but can't get it ot screw in the socket. Are all sewing machines bulbs universal?

your bulb part number is X53061020 and no the blubs are not universal I would suggest taking the old bulb with you along with the part number I gave you in order to get the right bulb when you go to the store.

Fabric won't feed forward

Do the feed dogs move up and down? If they dont the plastic gear underenth has probably broken you can take this to a singer dealer and have them replace the plastic gear with a nylon one which would last longer than that did

Did you try to physically move it to the position? I had to do that on my machine and it works now.

My kenmore 385 won't feed fabric

Check to see what pattern is selected. Be sure it isn't the buttonhole.Select straight stitch.Move the stitch length setting to 4.Turn the handwheel and see if the feed dogs move forward. Press the reverse lever and see if they move backwards. Select straight stretch stitch and turn the wheel to see if the feed dogs move forward and backward.Check the presser foot release on top of the machine and make sure there is pressure on the foot.
Sometimes the reverse assembly on this machine stops working because it has the wrong type of grease on it and it turns into a hard gummy mess that won't let it work.

Problem while sewing buttonhole with a thick thread

You will need to use a size 18 needle or even better a size 18 top stitch needle. It has a larger eye.Tighten the tension to about an 8 and try it. You may have to lengthen the stitch length to make it sew satisfactorily.. If it won't work on 8 go to 9 and if it still won't work, wrap the thread around the bobbin winder guide (on the left top of the machine) for more tension. It is very hard to sew heavy duty thread on a household machine.
