I have a 26 year old Elna Carina sewing machine, in excellent condition, which I use regularly and am the original owner. I was using a single Cam ... # 02 in it with no problem but now I am unable to remove the Cam. Can anyone give me some idea why this might have happened and how I might go about removing it?

Perhaps the spindle where the cam sets needs a drop of good quality sewing machine oil, like Tri-Flow Synthetic Lube. Be sure the stitch length & width are set to Zero.

50 year old elnas made stitches by cams. look to see if the machine has a cam in it. you can see this by opening lid on top of machine. cams are black with red or white showing the pattern of the cam. could also have broken cam stack gear. That would require technician with elna experience

I took the machine to an Elna dealer who fixed the problem by by-passing the (small board) switch that returns the needle to the ready position after filling the bobbin. It is quite frustrating not having that facility after being so used to it.

Is it possible that you've lowered the feed dogs and not raised them again? Is the stitch length dial set to 2.5 and not on a buttonhole blue setting or the Automatic "A" setting?

I am certain that we demonstrated this stitch with voile or hankerchief linen and using a wing needle and fine silk thread or rayon machine embroidery thread with the turkish hemstitch cam, cam number 140.
