Black screen? No response at all? Zune logo? Battery symbol? Error message? Lock button on? Aw heck, since you think it's a piece of sh*t anyways, grab a ball peen hammer and have fun...
Let the battery drain completely and then plug into computer. There was a leap year glitch from Microsoft and the fix is working today. Ours froze yesterday and it's OK this morning. This only fixes those that froze Dec. 31st.
Got it working again. Disassemble and disconnect the batery for about 10 seconds. This worked to resent mine and it's working again. Not sure if it's permanent, but working for now.
To do this, use a small screwdriver to pop off the plastic shielding where
the Zune cable plugs into and remove the two screws on either side of the plug.
Next pop the cover off and locate the battery plug at the top left corner of the Zune, using your screw driver, pop the cable connection half way off, and do
this to the other plug on the right side. Wait 3 seconds, then push down the
right connector and then the left battery connector. Your Zune should start up
immediately. Press the backing of the Zune down (make sure headphone jack is
aligned) and put the screws and cover back in place.
It's an easy process but if you're unsure don't attempt it.
Mine is locked up also. I tried the back and up keys simultaneously and nothing happened. The screen is stuck on the zune logo with the white bar on the bottom.
