How do you transfer data and the operating system from one hard drive to another?
Use AOMEI Partition Assistant,a free Windows partition software, to clone data or OS from one hard drive to another. http://www.disk-partition.com/copy-disk-partition-wizard.html
You can mirror current hard drive so that you can transfer data from one hard drive to another:

Step 2: Click menu Tools and choose Clone Disk to open the disk cloning wizard.
Step 3: Select source disk. Choose the disk you want to mirror and click OK button.
Step 4: Select destination disk. Select target disk that will store cloned data and click OKbutton. Make sure you choose correct destination disk, or you'll face data loss issue after the process.
Step 5: Start to mirror the hard drive. Click Start button and Eassos PartitionGuru Free starts mirroring the hard drive. The process may take long time if the disk is of large capacity. Do not close the software before the process is completed.

There can be several reasons for needing to copy data from one hard drive to another; for instance, if you are migrating data to a new computer or hard drive or if you just want to make sure you have a working backup. The simplest method is to just drag and drop the contents from one hard drive to the other. But this method will not work well for copying complicated things like operating systems. To do that, you need to use a hard-drive cloning program. The cloning program will copy your old hard, in its entirety, to your new hard drive. This can be done by installing them both inside the tower or by connecting them via USB external enclosures. Open your operating system's file explorer utility. Select the hard drive you wish to copy. Highlight all of the contents of the hard drive. Drag and drop the highlighted files to your back up hard drive. Allow the files to copy over to the new drive. Depending on the amount of data you are copying, the process could take a couple of hours. Clone the Hard Drive Download and install one of the many programs that will allow you to clone a hard drive. Cloning a drive makes an exact copy of the drive on your new drive. It's the only way to accurately back up operating systems, as none of the data is rearranged at all during the cloning process. Connect both drives to your computer, either by installing them or connecting them via USB external enclosures. Open your cloning program. Select the "Clone Disk" function. Choose the drive you wish to clone and the destination drive for the data and start the program. Do not do anything else on your computer while the drive is being cloned, as it will change the data on the drive and disrupt the process. Cloning a drive can take a few hours. Once it is done, you will have an identical copy of the old drive on your new drive. hope this helps http://download.cnet.com/easeus-disk-copy-home/3000-2242_4-10867157.html Copy and backup hard disks and partitions sector to sector. freeware http://download.cnet.com/easeus-todo-backup-free/3000-2242_4-10964460.html

Hi, Yes you can. The only requirement is that the 2nd/new/empty hard drive be similar in storage capacityif not bigger. If you are planning on swapping from old to new and use thereafter the new as the main "C" drive, you might want to try and simply clone the old. There are software available online for that purpose. One good example is a "Acronis True Image" paid version. A freeware version by Seagate is Seatools for Windows. Hope this be of some help/idea. Post back how things turned up or should you need further information. Good luck and kind regards.

I am guessing this is a USB hard drive. Is there a write protection on it? What are you trying to copy? You may have to limit the size of transfers and do multiple moves/copys. Or alternately you may use a backup program which may yeild better results depending on what you are trying to do, but also tends to be more consuming.

you can this many different ways. The most straightforward is to go to the drive and select "folder and file options" in the view menu and selct "show hidden files", that way when you copy and paste you will get every single file. The other way is to use a program such as Acronis Tru Image and use the clone option. I am assuming that you want an image of your C:\ drive.

You need a usb cable to harddisk. than a computer running linux. connect hd by usb to linux and copy.
SOURCE: I am using Transcend 320 GB external hard disk in
guess you are using a USB port to for that.....
1 - check the cable that connects the HD to the USB port...change the cable and verify
2 - connect to another PC and check if it's ok there
3 - bring another ext HD from a friend and try conencting that....check if that's OK
4 - there could be a corruption in the HD that is preventing the PC from reading it
cardinal rule for USB....not a very dependent device specialy if connecting thru USB data cables....
solution
always use a good qty USB data cable compatible with USB2....as some cheap cables are only for USB1
