I am currently using a wireless 'dongle' to connect to the internet but I feel that it would probably give me a more stable connection if I had a wireless card. Can anyone give me details of

Hi Lynda,
The best option for you would be to purchase a wireless PCI network card.
They are relatively inexpensive and should have a stronger signal over a longer distance than a wireless USB dongle.
Below is a typical wireless network card and it should be freely available from your local PC store

I have included a brief explanation for your convenience:

A PCI wireless adapter card connects to a desktop computer's PCI bus. Because the PCI bus is contained inside the computer, the unit must be opened and the wireless network adapter installed inside.
An example of a PCI wireless adapter card, the Linksys WMP54G is shown above. This unit is more than 8 inches (200 mm) long in order to accommodate the standard connection strip required to electrically join to the bus. The unit attaches and fits snugly inside the PCI, although the wireless adapter card antenna protrudes out the back of the computer

Best wishes,

Just installed a Netgear Wireless-N 150 router and my other desktop - which has a Linksys Wireless-G PCI adapter (model WMP54G) continually toggels between Acquiring Network Address and Not Connected. Are...

if your useing a G network (the router is a G?) then the adapter will attempt to connect via N you have to tell the adapter to connect via G mode only, it cut the speed in half but it should work.

if you have an N router check to make sure the router will accept an N connection. via the network configuration page. depending on the router that may be at http://192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.1.255

I have a 3600 DT and want to install a Linksys Wireless PCI Adapter WMP54G. Is there a voltage I need to be sure to buy and where do I find instructions on how to install this?

The PCI adapters are designed to work with the standard PCMCIA slots in laptops. You don't need to worry about voltages. The Linksys wireless adapter will have a driver CD supplied with the wireless card and the installation insructions are straight forward.

I have a linksys PCI card WMP54G. Worked fine for 1 year now it will not connect. Other wireless computers still get stong signal from router. Checking control panel "wireless connection 7 Not connected,...

This is something to try:

Download drivers for your wireless device from this website. Afterward uninstall your wireless adapter. Then re-install it using the drivers you just downloaded. That should repair the issue(s), if not let me know and we'll take a look at other possibilities.

My Wireless-G WMP54G card keeps Installing Dell Drivers

I hate to say this, but on Dec. 26, 2008, I called Linksys and they said that they don't make a PCI wireless adapter that works with sp3. Mine just rebooted the computer incessantly.

System do not reconize the PCI card

Does it ask for a driver to be installed? Or have you got the wireless version of the mobo that needs an ASUS WiFi-b add-on card with an omni-directional antenna?

Like on the previous version of the mainboard, the PCB contains five PCI slots and an exclusive WiFi slot, in its left part. By the way, when you install the original WLAN card from ASUS into this slot, the last PCI becomes unavailable. Now let’s examine the card, too.
wifi-s.jpg
The card supports the wireless networking protocol IEEE 802.11b, describing data-transfer rates up to 11Mb/s. Using the software that accompanies the card, you can use it in the Ad Hoc as well as in the Infrastructure mode, and the card can perform the functions of a programmable access point, providing connections to 31 clients. Thus, the owner of the WiFi-b kit can easily deploy wireless networks and connect to existing ones.
