Probably a failling DC-DC invertor which powers the back light, it's the most common fault with LCD TV's check to see if there is a wear kit available.
if you take it to a tv repair shop there gonna charge to much just tell you that your picture tube or the fuse is out. get the replacements and do it yourself for a lot less
I know it seems like it is a rip off but the diagnoses is probably right. It may well be caused by the digital controller that is mounted to the LCD Panel and is not sold separately so you need to replace the entire Panel whether the Panel it- self is bad or not. Cost of the LCD Panels are expensive and get much more expensive as the size of the screen gets larger. Sorry of the bad news.

Yes, if this TV has a bulb it is likely to be the bulb.
I am not familiar with this exact model, but other LCD Projection TV will show dim picture after some time. Expected life of the lamps is about 2yrs. After 2yrs the picture will become dim. After 5yrs I am suprised it is even working.
Dirt doesn't cause this problem unless your are a smoker or have the unit "literally" outside. DO NOT try to clean it or let someone tell you to do it because it will cause more problems than it fixes.
Unit has a bad optics block (light engine). Rebuilt engines available for around $350.00. I have seen this sympton several times and I am sure this is the problem.
