Wireless keeps going down

I have been at this site quite a bit, but users keep loosing the internet. I have set up the router a long time ago. I have dhcp running. The only thing is that one of the workstations is directly connected. When that user logs off does the wireless shut off. Normally I have to reboot the DSL modem or the router

Your problem could very well be your wall plug power supply, they are cheaply made with low grade components which do not last. Over time they start failing and the power supply to the router becomes unstable, the router than starts doing funny stuff such as been intermittent.
Find a replacement power supply, preferably with a littlebit higher current rating and your problem goes away.

Hope it helps you.

Have a sylvania net book says connected to wireless network but keep getting can not conect to server dns error on internet explorer reset router says it is conected but keep geting dns error i am using...

The router most likely set to only allow broadcast to G/N cards only. Although you have the proper key in the netbook if its a B card the router will not allow it to talk. Go in the routers back-web setting menu on the pc you can get online with. Most routers unless changed you will type 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.2.1 in your internet browser. It will bring up a box that ask for user name and password. User name generally admin password generally password from factory sometimes linksys will use linksys as the user however look that up on there website. Once you are in there go to your wireless settings and set it to "neighbor friendly B/G/N" click save then get out and try your netbook again. If this does not work go back in there again and drop your wireless encryption to WEP128 you will need change the wireless key when you do this just your cell number as the key no spaces 5551234567 like that

Netgear N600 keeps disconnecting from internet

If your router isn't running firmware v 1.0.0.46 then download that from Netgear's website and upgrade the router's firmware.

Netgear wifi router

1) does it lock up completely or will it work hard lined when wifi fails?
2) do all devices wireless fail or just a single device?
3) do you lose connection to the wireless completely or keep the connection but lose access to the internet? (confusing but very different to me)

in the end you could narrow down the problem but if you have already reset to factory defaults and set back up again and again then it may be time to retire that old router.

How do i secure me connection?

Login in to your router setup page and make the configuration of your wireless.

usually, for linksys wireless g routers, there is a website...
192.168.1.1
both the p.w. and u.n. is admin....
if you can't find anything on there, go to control panel>network connections>local internet connection. right-click it, click status, and then support.

Why does my WGT624 keep loosing connection. I would be on the Internet and for some reason, I would loose connection to the Internet. I have a Dell Inspiron...1521 computer.

In my case too this happened initially with my lenovo y410 laptop with netgeat router. In laptops if th ewireless network is set with "public" profile then the connection is sometimes dropped by the driver. If you or only a few persons are the only user(s) of your router and your WLAN is securely encrypted, then you can change the wireless settings of your laptop to be in "private" network, which will solve your problem.

Hello the_great_za,

You are going to have to do some clean-up work. Get a new router, keep the old one because it will come in handy.
Way to configure the new router:
1) configure WEP with the following settings
128 Bit or higher
4 WEP Keys (rotate them monthly)
Set Broadcast SSID to off
Use the long preamble
Set beacon broadcast for a long duration between beacon transmissions.
Get all of your PC together and configure them away from your house only turning everything on when at home.

Now what this will do is eliminate the entry vector, remember he is jumping on your stuff when your are setting it up, don't do this at home do it someplace else. (setting up that is). Then what you need is a LAN side protocol analysis test point to monitor for his presence.

Doing this will scare him off.

Hi i have the linksys model wub54g router an adapter i would like to put a password on t stop other uses on my internet

U don't need a password. U need to set U'r router to a secure mode, not open ended. use WEP or other (64 bit or 128 bit) encryption. linksys allows U to select a paraphrase, example: "Love2Air" and it will generate a code, i.e. "7D23C678867". This will allow others to see that there is a wireless system, but they have to have the code to use it. U will have to have the code in your other wireless pc's in order to use the system. U can also tell the router what MAC address' (pc address') to allow or disallow to use the system.
A password is used to keep others out of U'r routers setup and changing U'r code or paraphrase. If U'r system gets highjacked, there is a reset on the router and everything will revert to the book defaults. Don't loose the book.

Belkin Router keeps frezing.

Try changing the channel of the router to 1,9 or 11, and make sure that there is no cordless phone near the router or the wireless computer, this will help mionimize wireless interference. If this may not work you may want to adjust some settings on the advance wireless settings of the router like the beacon(set it to 50) and RTS/fragmentation(2304).

WEP encryption ana Wireless connectivity

  1. Open an Internet browser, and type http://192.168.0.1. If a "Configuration Assistant" appears immediately, then do not follow the rest of these instructions. Follow the Configuration Assistant instructions, instead. Once you are finished, test your Internet connection by browing online,
  2. Type admin for User Name, and password for Password. (Older routers use 1234 as the password.)
  3. Click OK. This logs you into the router
  4. Click Setup Wizard on the top left corner, Select Yes for the Setup Wizard to detect the type of internet connection and click Next.
  5. The Setup Wizard will detect the type of Internet connection. DSL connections which require a login to connect to the internet will be detected as PPPoE. Click Next
  6. Configure your router with the username and password provided by your ISP and click Apply.
  7. The router will now save these settings. When complete, you can verify whether you are connected to the internet from the Router Status > Maintenance menu.
  8. Verify you have a valid IP address (not-blank / 0.0.0.0) on the Internet Port assigned by your ISP
  9. check if you are able to go online wired..
  10. to setup wireless
  11. Click Wireless Settings under Setup menu.
  12. Under Security Options, Select WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy)
  13. Select Authentication type as Automatic and Encryption Strength as 64-bit (or 128-bit) - You must later configure your wireless computers with the same setting.
  14. Select Key 1 and enter any 10 hexadecimal digits - any combination of 0-9, A-F (26 digits if you selected 128-bit as the encryption strength) and Apply the settings. Please note down these values - You must later configure your wireless computers with the same setting.
  15. then check in your w/ls laptop, you would find your w/ls n/w name , try connect to it, enter your key , you would get connected
