46h84 the red is out

Projection TV sets have three tubes - red - blue - green and they don't fail often...they are located inside the tv DLP TV sets use a single bulb and a clot wheel to make the three colors display...DLP bulbs do fail about every two years and will need o be replaced. Replacements can be found at www.TvRepairKits.com and its located behind a small door on the rear of the tv.

I have the same exact problem...for a few weeks the TV would turn off and the red power light would blink. Then the other day I started having exactly the problem you describe...green screen for a few seconds and then total shutdown.

Probably power supply/deflection board-related problem.

my tv turn off it self and red light flashes

42 inch Toshiba DLP. Was watching a movie and the screen went dark. The red light started to flash and kept flashing. any ideas 

I have a Toshiba 46h84 with similar problem that needs a new green crt. Mine does not have a cooling fan. I don't know if having a cooling fan would help the problem, but mine didn't come with one. There are rear projection TV's that have bulbs in them that require a fan. This particular model uses a red, a green, and a blue crt to generate the picture and probably doesn't need one.

The 46H84 has 3 CRTs instead of a lamp. Red, Green and Blue. Your red CRT is shorting out shutting down the set.Here is how you test that theory. Remove the speaker grille, there will be an access panel behind the grille remove that and you will see the CRTs red is usually on the left. hit the power momentarally to locate which tube is red. then power down and unplug the power cord. Carefully remove the tubes Circuit board. ( you may have to carefully slice the glob of silicone applied at the factory to get the circuit board off) Once you have the circuit board off the Red CRT make sure it isnt touching anything and try powering up the set. If the set stays on and the other 2 CRTs light up. That tells you the RED crt is shorted and thats whats shutting your set down. Let me know if I can assist you further.

power supply has gone/

my tv starts turning a red color and then turns off by itsself then i have to unplug it to turn it back on every 5 mintues or so.

possible yoke fault or deflection /ask for an estimate before the repiars are done.might cost you a service call.
