I have an old Sony CCD-V900E Hi-8 camcorder connected to a Sony Bravia HD TV by S video cable. The picture is fine, but the sound does not play back. The cable etc is fine as playback on my Sony HD Handycam is fine
Have also tried the RFU adaptor which has audio output - same result. (I did check the aerial selector was in correct position!)Have also tried the RFU adaptor which has audio output - same result. (I did check the aerial selector was in correct position!)

I'm not familiar with that particular camcorder but if it has an S-video out it should also have a separate audio line out. Perhaps there is a breakout cable? (looks like this: http://tinyurl.com/7m8wp2 ) But if the RFU adapter shows video but no audio, perhaps there is a switch that is in the wrong position. Some Hi-8 camcorders have 2 kinds of audio: HiFi and Digital PCM. It could be that it was recorded in one form and it is set to play back in the other.
Another possibility is that your audio heads need cleaning. Do you have a Hi8 cleaning tape that you could run?

You need to buy a TV card which comes with audio /video composite sockets. these are female RCA or phono sockets which are also found on your camera.TV cards come with their own software to be able to capture pictures from your Hi 8 Camcorder using the av cables like the ones you use from your DVD to your TV set. There are other cards which carry the av sockets and come with video capture software. These cards are usually PCI cards which are fitted into your PCI slot in your PC motherboard. One other software that comes with such a card is Pinnacle Studio. Its called the Pinnacle AV/DV pci capture card. The one I use is just a DC 10 which works with Studios version 8. Please try any of these cards for your video capture
Sony has a recall on some of these ccd imager problems. Contact Sony to see if your model applies, but it sounds like an imager problem on your pal format camcorder. Larry
You need to hook Mini jack to RCA video cable between camcorder AV Out and TV AV Input to watch tape playback picture on TV screen. Above said cable is available in Radio Shake and Amazon etc.
Hi,
You camera is PAL and you are attaching with Ntsc TV or VCR. Both Pal and Ntsc are different systems and incompatible to each other.
If you want to see correct playback of your Camera, it requires Pal or Multi-System color TV.
Need further info, please let me know.
1st setup ur VCD with TV and playback it to view on TV. If picture is coming, thats OK.
2nd plug ur camcorder in VCR input and select VCR input according to plug in and monitor the camcorder picture on TV through VCR. If its ok, now u r ready to record the picture from camcorder to VCR.
I too have a Sony CCD-V900E camcorder complete with quite a few accessories e.g. charger and spare batteries. It belonged to my dad who was an avid filmmaker. I'd really like for this camera to be used and so I'd be quite happy to let you have it.
Please let me know if that would be an interesting option for you. If not, perhaps you might know someone who'd be pleased to make use of my offer.
Hello,
In this case the problem is in CCD unit.
Please claim for Sony recall on CCD-s. Sony will repair the camcorder FOC.
If you need more info please advice.
