I have the same problem. I have spent so much money on blank DVD's that I cannot use it's pitiful. It worked great on two DVD's and that was it. What do we do?

I have the saem problem, we can play DVDs but cannot dub. We get E6 and E4 errors. I just got off the phone with the tech support, and according to them it is the recording lense that needs to be cleaned, and worse case is that it is bad. pretty sad since we used this dubbing feature one day, that is it. The system is an Emerson, i would like to pass some knowledge retail wise. When I worked for a company in retail, we steered customers away from Emerson if we could, because the quality sucked and people who did buy emerson would end up returning the product due to poor quality. Buyers be aware!!! We are going to price new systems and screw it wth this one...figures!!!!

Can't find dvd-r 4X anywhere. They've been discontinued. I think Emerson should make their own brand so we can record on these machines. We pay all this money for them and then can't get
    dvd 4X for them anymore.

The problem is likely that you are using 8x/2x media. Though the booklet does not say it, the burner does not support anything above 4x for DVD-R and 1x for DVD-RW. Calling their tech support can (possibly) get an update for this problem. Otherwise, the burner cannot use anything but outdated media.

Called the funai's service tech line at 1-800-605-8457. They will sell you a firmware update for 23.00 shipped that will allow it to use up to 8X DVD-RW. I'm using memorex 2X DVD-RW (RITEKW01) I got from walmart. They seem to work OK although dubbing on my deck doesn't seem to work. Probably unrelated.

Bad news guys it is a record speed problem you can only record on dvd-r discs with an 8x speed rating and not good for us but they are now hard to find the lowest out i can find lately is 16x

Re: EWR10D4 firmware Funai will no longer cooperate on this matter. They swear they no longer have the firmware and that there is nothing they can (or will) do for anyone on this. (I have their emails as testament of that.) I can only record (DVD-RW) at 1x-2x. Not even at 4x. I could really use that firmware that by now, surely most that had the upgrade no longer need. If anyone has this, could you make it available to those of us that need it? Thank you in advance.

I am brand new at this. Bought system for $50 last weekend. Is there anything this system can do? I haven't seen a 1X disc in 5 Years. Kind of a coinceadence--> my unit was made in 2009. I still think it is chickenshit they won't even sell the firmware update.

EWR20V4 How do I finalize a disc after it's recorded ?

For the EWR20V4, press Setup on the remote then select the Disc menu (with the left/right arrows) and press enter. Select Finalize (using the up/down arrows) and press enter. A confirmation window will pop up, select Yes (left/right arrows) and press enter. Note: finalization takes some space on the DVD so leave room after recording to the disc. The step will take a few minutes. Finalization is permanent except for -RW discs (rewritable) and can only be undone with same unit that finalized the dvd-rw.

The DVD recorder was made by Funai Corp for Emerson. The manual for the unit can be found here: http://www.funai-corp.com/support/manuals.aspx . I found searching for products starting EWR gave several similar models. The direct link is http://www.funai-corp.com/6pdf/om/EWR20V4.pdf .

I hope this helps.

I have a emerson dvr recorder that everytime you insert a dvd it comes up "disc error"

Need a firmware upgrade. Emerson will charge you for it. Otherwise you need to find Dvds it will accept. Hard to do with all of the newer dvds. -RW only 1Xor 2X. -R 1X-2X. Memorex would not work for me. Multi- speed dvds over listed speeds will not work. Maxell -R 1X-4X worked for me. Good luck finding any.

Have VCR/DVD-RW/R recorder and want to be able to record to DVD+RW so I can play it on my PC. Any way of doing this without buying new DVD Recorder

I have not heard of any way, however I think it would cheaper to buy a player for your PC that plays both types of discs. Can't you find a way of connecting the Emerson to your PC?

Will not record dvd's

There are different kinds of DVD recorders and different kinds of recordable DVD disks.   Your disk must match the format of your recorder.  (eg DVD -rw, dvd -r, dvd +rw, dvd +r).  Look on the front panel of the emerson recorder and see what emblems are printed on it.  Your dvd must match the kind.  Also, if a dvd is of the -r or +r variety and has been finalized you cannot overwrite/rewrite to it.  (From a quick web search it appears your dvd uses dvd -r.)
