If your nifty with a soldering iron and I mean very skillful you could attempt to replace the physical USB sockets yourself. I have done this on a C660 before but only attempt this is you are confident and competent to do so.

One or two things spring to mind here. First always check the basics. Is the Xp disc not only functional ( not physically damaged and a proper bootable version).
2 does the dvd drive function normally in Windows.
3 does your laptop have latest bios?
4 is your bios battery in good working order. Check battery with multimeter if less than 2.3v replace.
You should have the option to boot from a usb drive as long as you have latest bios installed.

If the answer is yes to the above then as others have suggested try an external dvd drive if you have access to one.
If ypu have another pc you could always try a network installation. I would also check the state of the hard drive as if it is origonal drive it will be pretty old by now and may need replacing. With that been said, im still using original drive in my old C660.

SOURCE: i want to format my c660 toshiba and load xp the boot has been changed to dvd rom but does not want to boot say failure

Hi,
Check if you have another bootable disk and try with that. Check the same disc on a different computer and check if that works. Else if you have a exterl DVD drive check with that

Usb driver

All pen drives or just one? Do other usb inputs work in that port? Is there a light on the usb drive/does it light up?
Go into device manager, plug the drive in, and see if anything changes. If it does then click on what was added and see if you are maybe just not displaying it in my computer. If nothing comes up click the tool bar option "scan for hardware options." See if that does anything.

Both USB ports are broken

Unfortunately the C660 does not have a pc card/ esata interface for you to get an extender card. At this point, the options you have are to see if the system is in warranty or see if you could purchase the motherboard from Toshiba. An alternate would be to see if a local tech could resolder the ports for you... however your mileage may vary.

My Fuji xd card wont fit into slot of my Toshiba Satellite C660-1LD

That means your Toshiba's slot is not designed for that particular card. Go buy a card reader that handles many different sizes and formats for less than $20 and it plugs into your usb port.

Try this site at the link below and when it comes up just type: USB XD Card Reader in the white search box at the top and press GO.

You can sort the results from most popular which is shown first to Prices Low to High.

Ports/Interfaces on Toshiba Satellite Pro C660-171

If you still have warranty, take it back asp, they will have to repair or replace since this was manufacture defect, if that is not an option! Do a complete recovery on your operational system to factory setting.

1 usb port on toshiba satellite c660 doesn't recognize mouse

If is just a USB port, then it could be a driver problem, or that USB hub is turn off, or is a fried/bad USB port. Try another USB device on that port too.
