Errors 161, 192, 163.
All three of these errors are connected to the back up battery.
To resolve this problem:
1. open memory flap on base of laptop (small
philips screwdriver required)
2. find the small connector with 1 black & 1
red wire coming from it.
3. disconnect above connector and gently pull the Red&black wires. The backup battery should just pull out from under the casing.
4. get replacement battery. Either
a. call IBM spares (07900 247 490 in UK) and ask for FRU:
02K6502. UK price is about £8 + £15 delivery + VAT.
b. if comfortable with soldering iron: Carefully open the packaging on the backup battery using a sharp knife.
Remove the solder
tags from the battery (these are spot welded so need to be cut/broken off). Buy a new CR2025 battery from any computer shop, jeweler, or camera shop.
Using electrical tape, insulate all round edge of battery
Solder the leads onto the new battery - note polarity. Red wire to +, black wire to -.
Using more insulating tape, wrap battery so that all exposed metal is covered.
5. put new battery into laptop (reverse steps 1-3)
6. start up computer, error 192 has gone, but still shows 161, 163. Select OK.
7. reset date & time, and OK
8. when
screen shows 'O / I' restart laptop using on/off
switch at side.

mine does not go back to the time thing, it goes to this thing where it appears to show the power icon, and an arrow pointing to a line, and it will sit for hours doing that until i shut it off. email me at [email protected] with an answer please

FRU 3610
appears to be very common but workable problem I'm about to follow some of the advice out there and see how it works out.Meantime any input on the Bttery Pack cost and retailers?Looking for one in Canada..South-western Ontario?Pls help secure peace of mind..
On the start up there was an error code 174 (started about Sept 21st)
Investigating the same thru self diagnostics found additional error msg ?
DUE001 and 91 and FRU3610.Also High Voltage and Battery too hot.
Research indicated errors relating to Battery Back up CR2025
Further research /advice indicated remove CR2025 and restart
Followed up and error codes were gone but 174 continue to be there every time
Restart generated 174 again and directed to error diagnostics again
Reinstalled CR2025 and battery pack 02K7018 reset the clock and date.
Running the test various times(including the loop test)even after reistalling the earlier removed CR2025 and 02K7018, all tests come out OK
Continue to get 174 on every star-up? including start-up from F1
Error code refers to confugration related problem?System Board tests came-up OK.
Do I need to replace CR2025 with new battery and/or battery pack 02K7018(That is an expensive proposition for some one on a budget)
Do I need to reload the operating system that may clean up the confugration problem?

Yes after you remove the battery the error codes are gone and test will indicate OK for all aspects of testing but still have problem with error code 00174.Advance/loop testing fails to indicate results for HDD?Error code 00174 relates to confugration ?

windows installation process issue
halfway thru the window runs up to accept enduser licence agreement and after than setup incomplete cuz system can't find HDD even though the toshiba 20gb drive shows in scan while uploading and checking system info?
test shows HDD OK
changed the CIMOS battery a cpl dayz ago? and now don't need to reset the date n time cuz I was getting error codes for that reason.
remived drive and cheched on desk top formated and is clean drive
now the window set up comes with error sbp2port . sys is corrupt?
any help will be much appreciated..look forward to your prompt assist plz..
