Try another computer, or get an external hard drive case, put it in, plug to USB port. You might want to check your BIOS to see if it is picking it up. If you're reading from FAT32 computer, you will not be able to view NTFS files. You can, however, convert the drive from FAT32 to NTFS, using a 3rd party program. A great one is MiniTool Partition, you don't have to lose the installed Windows, and still manipulate your Hard Drive, size-wise, convert FAT to NTFS and vice-versa

Try booting to the SAFE MODE (F8 at boot) opening Device Manager, deleting all USB Root Hubs, rebooting in normal mode, let hubs re-detect, then reconnect the drive

Windows will not start with a Toshiba external hard drive plugged into USB

Computer starts normally in windows with a windows that is installed on a hard disk on that copmuter. In other words - windows is installed on an internal hard disk of a computer A. If you get it out and put in a computer B it wont work.

To have the things work:
1. First should set in BIOS boot up options first boot device CD/DVD, second OTHER/USB/EXTERNAL, third HDD
2. Should boot up from a CD and install windows on an external hard disk (in your case your 3TB Toshiba external HD)
3. Set in BIOS boot up options first boot device OTHER/USB/EXTERNAL, second internal hard disk e.g. HDD0, HDD1

I have a Toshiba portable external hard drive that I am trying to hook up to the USB port on my tv but the tv says "devise is not connected". The light is flashing on the hard drive. Why...

the drivers might not be installed for this device check the leads that attach to your external hard drive make sure connections are good and leads are good

click start control panel administrive tools computer management device manager scroll down universal serial bus controllers you could see a yellow question / exclamation mark? ! or a red X

you will need to update/reinstall drivers

right click to reinstall drivers

if you can see your usb drive but its not working

ports(com&lpt)right click update driver if this fails to fix the problem

check the USB leads that attach to the motherboard usually red white green black make sure they are securely seated and have no dust build up on them dust will cause static and a lot of unforeseen problems for a computer and its parts

hope this helps you

I recently purchased a Toshiba Desktop External Hard Drive, Part # PH3200U-1EXB. The drive will not stay turned on for more that a few minutes. What gives?

The rason why the drive doesnt remain turned on for more than five minutes is that because it is opeariting in power save mode.
This is to save the power consumption of the hard drive.
Do the following steps. >>Open start menu and type in "power options"binesheb.jpg
>>click on change plan settings binesheb_0.jpg

>>click on change advanced power setting binesheb_1.jpg

>>select the hard disk binesheb_2.jpg
>>click on settings and adjust the time as your wish binesheb_3.jpg

>>click on ok and save your settings

No Internet No Disk for drivers

go to http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/home.jsp?nav=Product%20Support#

select your product and download the drivers to your external drive

connect it to your friends laptop and install them, if you want it quicker just get the network drivers from the site, transfer and install then you can get all the other drivers directly to the laptop you are working on

hope that helps you, these are from the US site btw, if you want them for other locations (shouldn't make a difference) then go to toshiba.com and select your region

Toshiba 2.0 external hard drive

mrtunink,
Yellow ! simbol show in the usb devices means your usb driver may be corrupt so OS can't recognised the usb devices, u have to reinstall the driver like that way,

At first right click on my computer icon- then select propertices- then "hardware" - then click on devices manager buttons- then select ur devices and right click on it and click propertices then u finds reinstalls button under its propertices click on it and select install software automatically (recomanded) and click on ok. then windows scarch its driver automatically and install it.
