My heart rate monitor(HRM) began giving wrong readings like HR 55 while excercising and then a few days later quit working completely. Previously this was caused by old battery and i have not replaced this one in long time. I put in new battery in the chest strap but now get no reading whatsoever. I have tried to reinsert the battery multiple times and pulled the battery contacts(side and bottom) a little more to make sure contact is good and still no heart rate. Does anyone have any ideas? Also, I have seen some talk about a rescan fixing the issue but when i go under menu/settings/system there is no rescan option? Maybe my garmin unit is older and doesn't have that feautre...I think i bought it back 5 years ago?
It could be that there is a failure in the circuit between the two pads on the chest strap and the HRM electronics in the middle. If it won't work at all try putting the battery in backwards for a few seconds (this is supposed to accomplish a reset) and then try re-pairing it with the Garmin. If this doesn't work, I suggest a new HRM. I've hadevery good luck with my Wahoo TICKR and a Garmin 502.
ALL resettable locks have to be open to reset them. Otherwise a thief could simply reset the lock to open it. If the lock is closed and you have forgotten the combination, then try these idea: open combination lock forgot Google Search

Honestly I find that when you 're looking at a satellite device hrm etc your problem stems from the main unit. I recommend soft reboot or factory reset of main unit. When completed attempt a pairing and if there is still a problem then it is most probably a software issue
Most units can be updated manually by tether attachment to pc.
Also I would recommend a visit to local distribution hub (shop or store) to see if there is "hack" for this incompatibility

I Have had the same problem couple of times (and forgotten each time how I solved it). I figured it out just now and this is what I did.
1) turn on unit and put on heart monitor (make sure battery is good and wet heart strap)
2) using the mode button navigate the menus to: Settings: General: Accessories: Heart Rate Monitor
3) Once in the Heart Rate Monitor option make sure "Yes" is selected and then use the arrow buttons to highlight "Restart Scan" . Press the enter button to rescan for your heart monitor. (I had to rescan twice)
Go back to the main monitor screen to see if you are recieving heart rate signals.
I am not sure why a manual rescan needs to be done every time but it would be nice if Garmin fixed this issues in a unit software update (my unit has software version 2.80)

This mean that you unit is not equiped with a receiver inside the treadmill. Some models that was an option. Polar is the only brand that works with Lifefitness. You may have a bad upper display board. You can buy a replacement for a small amount of money.
