Removing the flame sensor rod on luxaire furnace/ac
Unit is outside unit with propane furnace with electric ac. Unit will light but then goes back out. Flame sensor rod is in the bottom.Cannot get a screwdriver in there to get it out. Burners stand on end on right side & flame sensor rod goes in from the bottom. Is there a trick for removal or is this not even my problem.

you shouldn't remove it. be certain that the flamerod is positioned so that the flame blows directly across it. it must be in the flame. use steel wool or fine sandpaper. dont overdo it. you just want to remove the carbon buildup.this is if the flame is going out abruptly. if it is "fading out" you have a different problem
Hello, sounds like a dirty flame sensor, this is a metal rod on the oppsite side of the hot surface igniter. All you need to do is remove the flame sensor and clean it with some steel wool and reinstall.
Hello, sounds like you have a dirty flame sensor. This is a metal rod on the oppositenside of the hot surface ignitor. turn off power to the furnace and remove the flame sensor, then use steel wool and clean the flame sensor and reinstall. Next turn back power to Furnace.
Hello, Make sure the flame sensor is clean near the burners, The flame sensor is a metal rod that is on the opposite side of the ignitor. To clean the flame sensor you will need some steel wool, turn off power to the furnace and remove the flame sensor and clean it with the steel wool. After cleaning reinstall it and turn power back on to furnace.
Hello. The first thing you can do is check the flame sensor, this is a small metal rod on the opposite side of the ignitor, Turn off power to the unit remove flame sensor and clean it with some steel wool. Also check the flame sensor to make sure there are no cracks in the base of it, if so then replace the flame sensor. If you have checked the flame sensor and the problem still continues you might have a problem with the unit not being grounded properly, you should have a ground wire coming from the main electrical panel to the furnace. If the ground wire is there and problem continues the control board should be replaced. I hope this helps.
if its a fossil fuel unit meaning nat gas or propane and it lights then goes out in a few seconds try cleaning the flame sensor take out sensor then rub it gently with steel wool then replace should solve problem
Most commonly if it lights just for a few seconds and goes right back out.....the flame sensor is not sensing the presence of the flame. This can most commonly be cleared up by cleaning the flame sensor.
The flame sensor is located in the burner area, it typically has a single wire leading to a piece of porcelain with a stainless rod protruding from the porcelain (mounted with a single screw) turn the furnace off, remove the screw, use some steel woal to clean the rod, put it back together and test it. BE SURE TO STAY CLEAR OF THE CARBIDE IGNIGHTOR......IT IS VERY FRAGILE.
You could have the gas co to check to preassures at or before the unit. Too low or high a preassure and the gas valve cant regulate the proper flow>>Natural gas to the house needs at least 5"-wc psi ---to the gas valve needs 7.5"--wc and while its calling for heat the orrifice needs 3.5" -wc psi! Propane needs 11" wc psi to the valve on the unit and 11' -wc psi to the inside furnace.
