Drove car night before...parked in garage, everything normal. went out next morning, wouldn't even click. tried the light switch and the side marker lamps and park lamps came on very dimly. battery posts are spotless and tight...i figured i must have left something on or a door ajar....tried jump starting with crummy cables....would just click, click, click even after a long time with the other car running at 1200 rpms...then trickle charged it overnight and only got the same, click, click, click.

Is the car immobilized? if so you may have to lock and unlock the car with the key and not the remote.
Is it turning over or just nothing, also starter motor may be jammed. put the car in gear with the hand brake off and push the car forward until you feel the engine turn over. You dont need the keys in the car!
This should free the starter off, sometimes they jam very tight and will not move at all, on these jags. they get rusty quickly if sat about. I had a XJ many years ago great motors.
Good luck.

try locking vehicle with remote then unlock it with remote,it might be the security needs to be reset.if that doesnt work look at the inertia switch
