97 jaguar xj6 no start with clicks...tried to charge battery w trickle charger

Drove car night before...parked in garage, everything normal. went out next morning, wouldn't even click. tried the light switch and the side marker lamps and park lamps came on very dimly. battery posts are spotless and tight...i figured i must have left something on or a door ajar....tried jump starting with crummy cables....would just click, click, click even after a long time with the other car running at 1200 rpms...then trickle charged it overnight and only got the same, click, click, click.

The battery could be so died that it will not charge and cheap cable will not carry enough amps to start it

SOURCE: 1993 Jaguar xj6 won't start, battery drained of

Is the car immobilized? if so you may have to lock and unlock the car with the key and not the remote.

Is it turning over or just nothing, also starter motor may be jammed. put the car in gear with the hand brake off and push the car forward until you feel the engine turn over. You dont need the keys in the car!

This should free the starter off, sometimes they jam very tight and will not move at all, on these jags. they get rusty quickly if sat about. I had a XJ many years ago great motors.

Good luck.

How do I set the settings on my NAPA automatic starter/charger 85-435 to charge my car battery or to try to quick start my car? I have a 1997 VW Cabriolet.

It is best to "trickle charge" a low/dead car battery using the lowest setting. The "jump start" function will probably not have enough juice to start your car by itself. Refer to the manual of your charger for safety precautions.

The 12 volt battery(LUCAS 065/3) on my FORD FIESTA 1100cc is 4 years old, in that time i have only driven 1,600 miles as my journeys are usually very local. I make sure i use the car twice a week to keep...

Running so few miles has accelerated the aging of the battery - the battery never had a chance to fully recharge in such small trips -  so now you have to replace it a year sooner than usual.
Just replace it.

Starting issue with 1994 jaguar xj6

Had similar problem which ended up being the Park Gear selection position. Do you get a beep noise when out of gear? What about when in park. Although my car was in Park, it needed wiggling out a little while turning the ignition to get it to crank and has been this way ever since.
Also had a Sovereign with an immobiliser that gave me the same no start problems some times, no solution other than an expert auto electrician for that.

1994 xj6 -- battery will not stay charged unless you drive it at least evry 2/3 days -- replaced battery with cheap to the best battery does not make a diff: Nothing appears to be left on

I have the same problem with my jag and because i only drive her at weekends its a right pain, i've put my battery drain down to cat one alarm as theres nothing left on apart from clock.
Going to try one of those solar trickle charge panels, plugs into cig lighter and put it on dash its meant to trickle charge battery.
