My ps3 will not play a disc & does not show a disc

Hello.

When you put in a disc, listen for the disc to start spinning. If you do not hear that then the laser and/or the spindle have blown out. You will have to get your Blu-Ray player serviced by a pro or Sony. Sony may fix it for free. They know that the drives are failing. So call them first. Otherwise the laser assembly needs to be replaced in the BR drive.

I had the same issue. I had to send it to PSR Repairs to have it checked out. They ended up replacing the hard drive & the laser lens. According to them, both those components contributed to the freezing up & inability to turn back on. Before I sent it in, I was able to get it to turn back on by holding down both the power button & eject button simultainiously. Lie it beep once, then double beep... Once you hear the double beep, release both buttons. A menu will come up giving you 6 options. Try option 3 first! you wont lose any saved items with this option. If that doesn't work, you will need to use option 6. This will delete ALL of your saved items, but there's a chance that you may not have to have your console repaired. You can retrieve trophies, games & demos from the PlayStation Store. Good luck! If I can be of further help, comment me back under this heading!

Sadly there currently is no fix for this problem. I've also had this same problem and contacted Sony about it.

You need to send it in to them to get it serviced. You can do this at:

If your warrenty has expired it will cost around $180.
