i had the same problem too with my'n. My issue was on of my setting's was set to block that wi-fi connection. Try switching your setting for finding internet connection from automatic to manual. that should do the trick!

ok do this if it is already showing your router up on your portable device but it has that security lock and you are unable to join or need a password which u dont know lol go to that network and on the top push forget this network. than go back and click on for other location. than for the name put in your router name usually 5 characters long make sure u use capitalization cuz its case sensitive. than select what kind of key u have it should say right on the side of your wireless router. than type the key in usually a wep key and u should be set to join it if it doesnt auto matically do soo

If you have a working Windows wireless machine, you can extract the key from the Windows machine and use it on your other devices.
Download this: http://download.cnet.com/WirelessKeyView/3000-2092_4-10614187.html
and then run it.
You can learn the WEP or WPA key in use which you can then use on other devices.
If there are no other working wireless devices, you will need to log on to your access point and reset the password there. The instructions for that depend on your access point.
If it is a WEP key, it may come in two forms - a "password" or a number that is 10 or 26 digits long. You need to use the 10 or 26 character version in the iPod touch.

Method 1.
If you forgot the WPA Key for your router, you will most likely have to connect to the router directly and reset the password to something you can remember.
In order to do this, you will need to have access to the router itself, and an Ethernet cable.
First you will need to connecting your computer to an open Ethernet port on the router itself and log onto the router's configuration program.
This program is usually a webpage on the IP of the router.
To do this type the IP of the router into a web browser's address bar.
In most cases the default IP of the router is 192.168.1.1, however you can find what this IP is by connecting to the router directly, and opening up a command prompt (In the Accessories folder in the start menu) and typing "ipconfig /all" (without quotes) and looking for an entry named "default gateway", the number next to it is the IP of the router you're connected to.
When you get into the router's setup program, it will ask you for the configuration password, if you set up the router, then this is a password you set, if you did not, the either ask the person who did, or move on to method 2.
After you have logged on to the router, look for wireless settings or security settings, and the Wi-fi password should be there for you to change to something you can remember.
Method 2.
If you can't log onto the router to change the WPA Key because you've also forgotten the router's configuration password, you'll need to do a factory reset (hard reset) of your router.
To do this you will need to have physical access to the router and you will need to find the reset button.
Usually by holding down the reset button on the router for 3-5 seconds, the router will initiate a hard reset, erasing all the settings, and setting itself back to factory default settings.
This will mean that you can log onto the router via the steps above and set the password for your wi-fi.
The default password after a reset will depend on your router, but in most cases it will either be administrator:password or admin:password or just blank:blank, if you have to, refer to the manufacturers website for the default password.
Touch the "Settings" icon on the home screen of the iPod touch.
Opt to have your iPod alert you when there is a new network you can join. This can be useful if you are no longer in range of a network you have previously used. To receive these messages, turn on the "Ask to Join Networks" feature.
Tell the iPod touch to "forget" a wireless network that you no longer want to use, so it will not automatically try to connect you. Under the Wi-Fi settings, tap the ">" button next to the network you want to delete and then touch "Forget this network."
Expect that some wireless networks detected by your iPod touch will ask you to sign up for a fee-based service. If this is acceptable to you, open up the Safari application from the home screen. You will be taken to a website that explains the terms of service and accepts credit card payments for wireless Internet access.

I have the SAME problem
I have the same problem with Zyxel P-330W. iPod touch can't connect through wireless connection if WPA or WEP encryption is used. Called Zyxel product support. They suggest to upgrade iPod Touch's firmware. However, I checked the firmware version in iTouch, it's ver 2.2 which is already the latest.
My iPod won't return any results for wi-fi networks. It has before, and there are plenty of connections where i live, but it wont show any of them.
my ipod clearly connects to the wifi internet (i tried a few times just to make sure), but it won't respond to it. for example, despite the fact that it's connected to the wifi and the bars are full, the ipod won't connect to youtube, google, or the itunes store.
What's to say... Connected fine for 3 days. 4 different networks (Home, Work, Church, School) Now All it does is search for networks in all 4 places.
i have a Zyxel P-320W, almost the same as the guy above me, and i also cant see my router in wifi
