My hard drive failed on my computer so I bought a new one and installed it. I had Windows 7 Home Premium on my last hard drive so that is what I wanted to put on my new one but I do not have an installation disc or product key. I borrowed an installation disc from my buddy but without a product key I can install it but I cannot activate it. I cannot find my Microsoft sticker anywhere...it is not on the bottom, back, sides, top, or even inside. I tried calling HP but the guy I talked to tried to tell me that if I used that disc it was pirating. What can I do?
If you can get the old hard drive to work on your old computer for a short time Finding lost application install keys is quick and simple with this handy executable, a complete rewrite of a well-received earlier version. Keyfinder Thing's simple, easy-to-understand interface has Wizard-like efficiency. This application quickly scans your system registry for 90 supported software titles and displays product names and icons in the result window. Single-button clicks copy all keys to either a text or HTML file. http://download.cnet.com/product-key-finder/3000-2094_4-10694022.html Product Key Finder is a single function utility that executes in a GUI, but displays a Command window result. You merely double-click it to display the 25 character Microsoft Windows Product Key. then store it away for safe keeping not on your computer hope this helps

SOURCE: Hard drive driver problem
Hi,
It is possible that your hard drive is a SATA and therefore not readily readable by 98, XP but surprised not even by Vista. In any case, since you would still prefer to run XP (due to other software compatibility issues), pls press F6 when prompted by the XP installer. Additionally, you would need to have ready in a floppy the appropriate SATA drivers for your motherboard. They maybe downloaded from the motherboard manufacturer's website or possibly in the installer/driver CD that came with the PC.
Other than the above, it is also possible that you may have some issues with the availability of XP drivers for the other devices for that computer specially if it is branded.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.
Good luck and kind regards.
Thank you for using FixYa.

Hi edrf,
The best place to get an answer to your question is microsoft themself. Here is the link:

OH ! I see now , you installed some extra software or it got installed by accident
and now you don't have the key for it well there are solutions.
You can unintall those programs as they are extra garbage really and you don't actually need them
as media player is quite capable of doing those things be default from what I've seen.
or you can enter the dank underground of hacking and look for a crack or keygenerator for that.
but honestly you can simply ignore those extra programs as you can do those things using
many other programs which are far better solutions for doing those particular tasks.
my strongest recomendation is to simply get rid of them , that CAN be done by totaly uninistallig media player , and loading up new ones from the windows update site , and keep going till you have media player 11 the current media player
lets hope you're using windows XP or greater with all it's updates and service packs that we dispise so much yet love.

In order to step down to a 32 bit OS from a 64bit OS you will have to completely reformat your hard drive with the 32 bit os install DVD.
