Powerline ethernet adapter to Wireless Extender working fine, BUT ...

Disables my internet access from my laptop which is directly connected to my main router. If I pull out the power line ethernet connected to an adjacent port on my router, then the laptop internet connection works fine. Both do not work concurrently - any ideas on how I fix this? Thanks T

SOURCE: Powerline ethernet lost connection

this is usually caused by dirty power, have you installed cfl light bulbs recently?
you might also check to see if any existing full fluorescent lights produce a buzzing noise.

A power surge during a storm can damage the powerline adapters, in a heartbeat. This is a very strong possibility and you may need to replace the adapter(s). If it fried one, it can fry them both. Was any other electroonics connected to the power outlets in the home damaged? If so, then you may be out of luck, and need to replace them both.

I'm using an 85Mbps Powerline Ethernet Adapter. The internet on the main computer (which is directly connected to the router) is fine with no interruptions. However i'm not having a smooth internet...

EOP connections can see interruptions when the power line itself has noise on it. Air conditioning motors, hair dryers, fans...basically anything that can create "noise" on a power line can cause interference to ethernet over power lines. The first thing to do is see what may be causing the intermittent nature of the internet cutting on and off. We moved to EOP over a year ago and experienced the same problem in two rooms of our house. In both cases we found that the upstairs Air conditioner unit, when it was on, was throwing so much noise on the power line that it was interrupting the signal and our wall units would stop "chatting". When the unit cycled down, everything would work fine again. We had an electrician come out and install EMC noise filters to that took care of the problem with the air conditioners adding this noise and we've been trouble free save for the use of a hair dryer now and then.

Hi, I'm an idiot! PLEASE HELP

you may be suffering from mixed Cat 5 and Cat 6 cabling.
The wiring is slightly different and they don't work well when mixed in routers and modems etc. One or the other will work , but when they're mixed it'll do what you have going on here...

I would recommend wiring everything with cat 6 ethernet cabling. Look on your cable and you will find the labeling on the outer casing.

hello!
-- what is the exact model number of your access point and router?
-- what is the ip address of your access point and router?
-- what is the operating system of your computer?
-- Is your computer directly connected to the router?
-- Do you have a wireless computer? what is the model number of the wireless adapter

if you want to configure your access point with your router you may try the ff:
Step 1: Connect the Ethernet port of the access point to one of the Ethernet ports of the router
Step 2: Make sure the power adapter is plugged to an available power outlet
Step 3: Check if the corresponding LEDs on the access point are lit
Step 4: After connecting the devices together, configure the access point’s wireless settings
Step 5: Open the access point’s web-based setup page
Step 6: When the access point’s web-based setup page opens, change the SSID, Channel, and Wireless Security.

Connecting powerline ethernet adapters through orange livebox

Try to eliminate the problem into smaller parts. Try networking the two via the same power outlet via a multiple power board first in the same room. I don't have much experience with these powerline ethernet but i'm sure the configuration of these will be very similar as wireless router / access points and wireless adapter cards. However what I do know is that your power outlets need to be on the same "phase" of your electrical power system, so if you do this test I suggest (from one outlet board) you know the equipment works and your setup procedure works. then try seperating again and if it still doesnt work, check if your power outlets are wired on seperate phases (depends if your house has 3 phase wiring incoming to your home or not). Try another room or another outlet.
