System components:
Intel D845GEBV2 motherboard with Celeron 2.4GHz CPU
(BIOS Version: RG84510A.86A.0028.P15)
512MB RAM (two 128MB 266 DDR modules)
80GB WD Hard Drive
ATI Radeon graphics card (in AGP slot and enabled)
Trying to load Windows XP Pro. The installation process appears to complete without error (formats NTFS filesystem, loads all files, selected localization settings, etc.) On reboot I see the Windows XP Pro splash screen, then the mouse cursor (arrow) and the screen stays black and it just hangs. Mouse is dead, keyboard is dead, system is hung. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Ken
Try to boot into Safe Mode (press F5 before the splash screen) and see if it will successfully boot. If it works then it may be due to a driver issue. If you get the same result, try to reinstall the OS but totally remove the partition table before doing the installation. Specifically, remove the partition that you will be installing to and recreate it to your specifications.
You can also try to set the BIOS to fail-safe or defaults.
Hope this helps!
Try removing your AGP card and enabling the onboard graphics again. It is possible your Radeon is a 3.3v, but this board only supports 1.5v cards. Take a look at the manual at ftp://download.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/D845GERG2/BV2RG2_English.pdf
