I have a Sony Digital Handycam that is probably 5 years old. It hasn't gotten a ton of use, but some, but recently tapes have been getting stuck in position after use. For example, I just put in a new tape to record Xmas morning, and after filiming 1.5 minutes, turned it off. When I went to capture more, the tape kept dinging, and showed me a blinking yellow arrow, which means tape issues. Shutting it off and on does not release the tape. So now I have Xmas captured in this unretrievable tape along with the other tapes. Clearly i shouldn't entrust my family memories with this machine, but anyone else ever have this happen? Could it be operator error, somehow?
A problem with an electro mechanical mode-select switch there could be a timing problem arised by mechanical problems on contacts inside (an old video recorder problem between the seventies and nineties ) all equipments where tapes or cassettes are used.
A service manual for timing should be neccesary

Cournane1, you're genius; at first I thought you're just teasing; I got the same problem and spent many hours trying, and finally took your advice - it works !!!! SUPER !!!
SOURCE: tape is stuck
First take out the battery. Then start unscrewing the outside panels to take it apart. Basically any screw you find, take off. The easiest way not to loose them is by sticking them into the side of a box. After you get the camera panels off, you should be able to carefully get inside and dislodge anything that may be in the way. Once you are able to dislodge the cord or whatever is causing this problem. Try inserting the battery and ejecting the tape. Let me know if you are having any trouble with this or have any other questions and I would be glad to help.
Good luck
