SOURCE: Hi my door on the Miele W487 is not closing, the

The door on my 27-year-old Miele W784 also would not close and, at first, I suspected that the door hinges had become misaligned. However, the solution was to give the latch a good squirt of WD-40 (other brands, as they say, are available) and have patience as it did not clear the latching problem immediately.

The left rear door is open on my 2010 Ford Escape, but the child safety lock is in the locked position and the door will not close. The key does not turn the child safety lock to the open position.

I am not familiar with the model but door mechanisms tend to be similar between makes and models and a thought occurs...

When a door is closed the catch is pushed over the striker and when it is fully home the catch latches and holds the door closed. That is what happens when everything is in good condition and correctly adjusted though sometimes some designs of catch can be defeated when the door is allowed to swing with insufficient force to close it, resulting in the catch latching in the closed position while the door is open and consequently the door won't close until the catch is released.

Many but not all door catches will reset when the door handle is operated - some must be reset using a rod or screwdriver mimicking the door striker while operating the door handle. The child safety lock generally immobilises the internal handle but leaves the outside handle and the catch/latch to operate normally.

If the door does not operate predictably as per the owner's handbook, you should assume there is an internal fault - mostly caused by maladjustment and/or a lack of lubrication.

Door will not lock light stays on

Usually this is caused by the door being bent, the hinges being bent, or a worn out door strike/catch not holding the door tightly closed. Lol, got kids?? Mommy's little helpers love to lean on the doors(the ones that open/close vertically). Also, slamming the dryer door can break the little plastic arm attached to the door switch--I see MANY switches with the arms broken in-half or the strikes/catches damaged from slamming. Usually a relatively simple repair to replace the strike/catch.

The driver side door on my 2002 chevy blazer wont close.how do i fix it?

Door pins are a common failure on that series of Blazer/S10's. Also, another point of contention that the door faces is a sticky latch. Basically, the door latch re-latches itself and when you shut the door into the catch, it slams into it and bounces off. An easy fix is a 3 part cocktail of brake parts cleaner. Open and shut the latch with a screw driver acting as the catch and your interior door handle a few times. P'Blaster, open and shut the door a few times with the screwdriver acting as the catch. Finally, a good shot of white lithium grease. Open and shut the door with a screwdriver as the catch several times. Once you feel it is un-stuck, actually close and open the door several times. If you notice the door rising every time it catches, you MUST replace the door pins (cheap fix). If the door still has issues, replace the door latch (and since you're in there, do some PM and replace the actuator as well).

Door wont close all the way it causes wind noise inside the car how do i fix this??

In the door jamb, loosten the 2 star screws that hold the piece that the latch catches and move it closer to the center of the car. This will make the door close a little bit farther for the latch to engage.

Whirlpool duet we broke the catch that holds door closed on washe

If you are referring to the door latch mechanism on the door facing, the following link explains step-by-step how to replace one:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3575840-replacing_a_door_latch

If you are referring to the catch on the door itself, it can also be replaced. Just remove the two Torx (T-2) screws that hold it in place and remove. Replace as necessary with a new catch. Replacement parts can be purchased at any of the following websites:

searspartsdirect.com
pcappliancerepair.com
appliancepartspros.com
repairclinic.com

All these sites are reputable and offer great service with competitive pricing, so shop and compare. The first three sites I listed also include helpful exploded view parts diagrams to assist you in locating and properly identifying the parts you need.

If the model number is correct, the part number for the door latch is 8182634. The door catch part number is 8181651. You can view these parts under the "Door and Latch Parts" heading as items 7 and 9.

If you have any questions, please post back and let me know. I hope this is helpful to you.

Door wont stay closed

Either the door catch or spring is broken, or the door lock is not working
The parts are fairly easy to fit, once you have determined what part or parts you require.

Door catch

With the door open hold the door handle up as if opening the door. The latch in the door mechanism will now be free so you need to rotate it to the open position. It might be a bit stiff but it will rotate with the handle pushed You might need a pair of pliers or small wrench to move it around.

I had the same problem, so I took the door apart as explaned above, found it was gunged up with residue from the washihg cycles. Gave it a good clean, while the part was disconected of course, and hay presto! the door works like new again.
