Reset Dell 1720dn network address to get back access to it?

My printer was fully operational but I recently did a mistake in its set-up through its web server interface: DHCP is disabled, AutoIP is disabled, Address source is set to manual and unfortunately, address was set to 0.0.0.0 ...I cannot access the printer any more through its network port. I can only use it through the USB port. I tried to use the arp -s command to force an IP address linked to the MAC address (that I can read by printing a status sheet) but I still receive no answer from the printer when pinging the related IP address...
I am running out of ideas...Can you help? Is there any way to get the printer back into a factory default state from a network standpoint? Thanks for any help you can provide

I plugged the printer to the network and it received an invalid ip-address (169.xxx). But the suggested solution with the dell tool to set a manuell ip-address doesn't work. When I start the tool and enter the MAC-address (UAA) of the printer, the only thing I get is an error message: "IPSU: communication error with the network print server". What can I do?

Return the printer settings to the factory default values by pressing and holding the Continue button. This should re-enable the DHCP so that it will get an IP address. To check, print a settings page by pressing the continue button for 2 to 3 seconds. On this page look for the IP address and to see if DHCP has been enabled. Once DHCP is enable and if you are still getting all 0's be certain that the ethernet cable is plugged in securely to the back of the printer and follow it to the router. If they are plugged in firmly and you are still not getting a valid IP address, try resetting your router. Turn it off, let it set for a minute, and then power it back up. Print another settings page. If you still are not getting a valid IP address, try using a different ethernet cord. Print another settings page, if you are still getting an invalid IP address, try a different port on your router. If at this point you are still not getting a valid IP address I would say that you have a problem with the ethernet connection on the printer. A valid IP address for a home or small business network is usually something similar to 192.168.xxx.xxx where the x's represents a number. If you are getting 169.xxx.xxx.xxx or 0.0.0.0, these would not be considered an invalid IP address.

There is a utility on the Install Disk to set a static IP address

  1. Connect the network cable and power on the printer.
  2. Press and hold the Continue button for 2-3 seconds to print a network settings report.
  3. Obtain the MAC address of the printer from the network settings report. The MAC address is the value listed under the Standard Network Card section as UAA.
  4. Insert the Drivers and Utilities CD.
  5. When the Drivers and Utilities CD screen appears, click the Set IP Address link.
  6. When the Set IP Address Utility window appears, enter the MAC address in the box under Discover Print Servers, and then click Discover.
  7. Click to select your printer in the box under Configure Print Servers, and then click TCP/IP Settings.
  8. When the TCP/IP Settings appears, enter the TCP/IP Address, Subnet Mask, and Gateway Address.
  9. Click Apply to save the settings, and then click Close to exit the utility.

Need to setup on network

Refer to the directions that came with the printer. You will probably need to know your IP address, subnet mask and gateway or if this is set up as a wireless network the SSID (network name) and WEP (password) to connect.
Usually you can just plug in the network cable and it will set itself up using DHCP.

I did a forced reset to default... Open the front panel, hold down the green and orange buttons, turn on the printer. Wait as the lights cycle until the error light remains on, then close the front panel. A new config page will print, and then you will be able to connect to the printer using the new DHCP address that has been assigned.

Dell 1720dn Error and Toner light on

After replacing the drum unit you have to tell the printer that you've done it(it's not smart enough to figure it out itself). Have the front door open and press and hold the Cancel button on the printer until all lights flash in sequence then let go. Then close door and try.
