How to load film

http://www.usa.canon.com/app/pdf/compact_film/Sure_Shot_Z135_manual.pdf
The link above will take you to a .PDF that is an owners manual for the Canon Sure Shot Z135
On page 14 it lists how to load film into the camera.

1. Slide the back cover downwards
2. Insert the film
- Make sure the film is positioned above the film guide
3. Pull the film tip across until it reaches the film tip marker
- Make sure the film is flat
4. Close the back cover
5. Turn the dial to (auto)
(Turn the power on)
the camera will automatically advance the film to the first frame.
6. "1" should be displayed on the frame counter

If this show zero there has been an issue, make sure you are using the proper film for the camera

On loading a fresh film into the camera the motor winds through to the last frame ie does not stop at first frame

That's entirely correct. Your camera winds all of the film out upon loading and each shot then winds the film back into the canister. Your frame counter works in countdown mode telling you how many shots remain rather than how many you've taken.

Many other camera do the same thing. The beauty of it is twofold: if the camera back is accidentally opened, then the shots already taken are safely in the film canister (except for the last shot), also when the film has finished you wait less time for the short length remaining to be rewound rather than the entire roll.

Hope this helps, please take a moment to rate my free answer.

Can not import film to PC.

I have a partial solution for those whose files come up as audio. connect your camera via USB. Windows Movie Player should recognize the camera when you select capture device. When you have your camera selected hit next. Put the file in My Video and title it. When you are ready too capture video Hit play on you camera while in the review screen. The Movie Maker will then capture your video as it plays in the camera.
