Just purchased a Nuvi 205w and wanted to know if a standard Motorola cell phone wall charger would work for this unit? Haven't spent a lot of time in the car in order to use the car charger.
For us, only the Nuvi car charger works - not plugging the Nuvi into a computer USB port, or using our Blackberry cell phone charger, both of which have the same type of plug.
Although we don't have one (yet), if you don't like leaving your GPS unit in the car unattended then I think an in-house charger is a must - if for no other reason to maintain your customized settings between infrequent trips.
I personally like the Navigon Universal GPS AC Wall Charger which plugs into the wall and has a socket like a car lighter socket, into which you plug the Nuvi charger. It is about $20 here in Canada at Future Shop.

I have a B&D Travel Mate AC/DC converter and plug the Garmin Cig charger into it. Safe and since you are using the proper charger, covered by the warranty!

Thank you for you help, I do appreciate it. Is it worth purchasing the "Garmin" wall charger for home use, or should I just stick with the car charger?
I dont spend enough time in the car to charge the gps and my cell phone home carger fits but when I use the car charger it shows it is charging and when I plug in the home charger it shows a data transfer from gps to computer. Is it hurting the unit or is it chargeing it?
