Pop Up Drain in vessel sink

Http://www.krausproducts.com/pop-up-drain-brushed-nickel-pu-15bn_19748.html I have this drain with no overflow, you push it down to close, push again to open. It recently got stuck in the closed position. I had to unscrew & remove to use the sink. Now trying to get it to work again without replacing the whole thing. Any suggestions? Thanks, Laura

SOURCE: pop up vessel sink drain

Look underneath the sink and you will find the lever that moves the drain up and down. It is probably stuck.

SOURCE: Pegasus Push Button Vessel Sink Drain with overflow

Put plumbers putty around the flange that will be in contact with the sink. When you put it into the hole, try to line up the overflow as good as possible. The nut that goes onto the bottom (tailpiece) has a rubber gasket that will go between the nut & the sink. Adding some plumbers putty here won't hurt. After all is secure, just remove the putty that squeezed out from tightening.

SOURCE: sink drain slow

You can purchase a device from Home Depot that will clean out the drain. In the plumbing business, we call it a blow bag. But some call it drain dog and so on. It's a black rubber bag that fills with water and then when it reaches a certain pressure it blocks the drain but runs water through it until the clog is dislodged. You attach it to a water hose and push it into the drain as far as you can get it. Run it for 15 to 20 min. and then pull it back out. There are several sizes to accomadate the pipe size. You sill need the one that does pipes up to 2 inches. You will have to remove your drain assymbly under the sink to do this. While you have the drain assymbly off, you can make sure it is clean as well. This will clean out the garbage that collects in the pipe. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: The pop-up drain stopper on my American Standard bathtub no longer seals in the down position. Any suggestions? KG

Unscrew it (turn left/counterclockwise), thoroughly clean it, lubricate it with liquid dish soap, screw it back in. If it still doesn't work, best bet is to get a replacement.

If, when you remove it, you find the gasket around the bottom is torn, probably ought to replace it and forego the cleaning step.

SOURCE: Pop up plug allows water to drain even when in down position.

The plug is out of adjustment and not fully seating. It adjusts underneat the sink at the back, good luck
