You could try only syncing changes to library instead of resyncing the entire library.

also you could try using a different usb port on your computer instead of using the ones in the front try the ones in the back.

How do I delete songs

More info please. Without it I offer this.

Have your iTunes on your computer. Open iTunes and update your music. i.e. delete the songs you wish to delete. Then set your iTunes to sync to your iPod (make sure you don't have it set to sync the other way). With iTunes open, plug your iPod into a USB port and the computer should sync back to the iPod and mirror your iTunes files.

Ipod classic won't sync with itunes 10

Restarting your computer is often the solution when your iPod fails to sync with your iTunes music library. But if this fails, there are other troubleshooting steps to take.

Recharge your iPod via a USB cable connected to your computer or AC adapter. b> Click the help menu in iTunes and check for updates. Follow the onscreen prompts to download and install the latest version of the software. Open the new version of iTunes. Click the name of your iPod in the source list and check for updates under the summary tab to update your iPod. Attempt to sync your iPod with iTunes. Slide your iPod's hold switch to the hold position and then to off. Press and hold the menu and center buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears to reset your iPod. Open iTunes on your computer and reconnect your iPod to try to sync it with iTunes. Restart iPod service b> Close iTunes and make sure your iPod is disconnected from the computer. Click the 'start' button. Click 'run' if using Windows XP. Type 'services.msc' in the run box in XP and in the search box in the start menu in Windows 7 and Vista. Press 'enter.' Scroll through the list and double-click on 'iPod service.' Click the 'stop' button and leave the properties window open. Connect your iPod to the computer. Open 'my computer' or 'computer' and look for your iPod listed in the devices with removable storage section. Click the 'start' button in the iPod Service's properties window. Open iTunes to attempt to sync your iPod. Close the iPod Service's properties window once your iPod has finished syncing. Resolve "Original File could not be Found" Double-click the name of a song in the iTunes program that failed to sync to your iPod. Click 'yes' or 'locate' to the message asking you if you want to locate the file. Navigate to the folder or directory location where the song is stored on your computer. Double-click the song file to select it and add it back to iTunes. Reconnect your iPod to the computer and open iTunes to restart the syncing process. Ipod takes hours to sync

It will probably take an hour or two to sync 20 gigs of music.

I am sure your 4,178 songs are somewhere around 20 gig.

It takes roughly 6 - 8 hours to put 80 gig on.

Imagine how long it took to put my 130 gigs on.

Word of advice, make sure you turn the settings to manually manage music.

You don't want to lose all your music cause you hook it up to another computer and it syncs with its itunes.

installing more computer ram might be an option

If you're not sure if a module is right for your system, use the Crucial Memory Advisor tool for a list of guaranteed compatible modules.

first you will need to select the manufacturer from a drop down list then select your product line from a drop down list then select the model then click find it will take you directly to compatible ram also you will have an option to scan your system

you should always ask for a guarantee on the compatibility before making any purchase and try to buy for working pairs if possible

also check the usb leads for secure dust free connections

if you scroll to the bottom toolbar while syncing your ipod select task manager application to see whats running if you see something running that should not be running select end now also in the applications see whats ticking over

you might have a virus

To disable automatic updating:

1. Connect iPod to your computer
2. Open iTunes.
3. Select iPod in the iTunes source list, you know in that left column where your playlists and ipod are located.
4. right click on your ipod and select the Options button.
5. Select "Manually manage songs and playlists."

No more long updating each time you connect your ipod.
(Although you might have to wait one more time to do this step but im sure you can do it intermittedly while its updating)

to re enable

1 - Select the iPod in iTunes.
2 - Tick Manually manage music and videos.
3 - Select the Music under Library at the top left of iTunes.
4 - Reselect the iPod and uncheck Manually manage music.
Also, uncheck Enable disk use.

Also remember in the Manange you own tracks mode you need to disconnect your ipod by clicking on the "eject ipod" icon in the bottom right or next to your ipod icon.

The ipod will continue to flash "do not disconnect" if you don't click the eject icon.

Not that my way is hard but there might be a quicker and easier way to load tracks in your ipod when its switched to the manange your own tracks mode.

If there is I would like to know

hope this helps

I have an ipod classic 160Gb it is really slow, when I press any of the keys it takes ages to respond. sometimes it takes about 5 seconds to get back to the menu

Your iPod's disk is probably badly defragmented. This happens naturally with time; the files which contain your songs and videos are broken up in parts and located in various parts of the disk. Your iPod needs to search all over your disk to get file information, taking longer than it would if your files each were made up of one part.

To defragment your iPod's disk, do the following:

1) Make sure all your iPod's music and videos are also on your computer, and in iTunes.

2) Connect your iPod to your computer, and run iTunes.

3) Click on your iPod on the left side of iTunes, then click on the "Restore" button in the middle of iTunes.

4) Wait for your iPod to finish restoring, then click on the "Sync" button to copy all your songs and videos back to your iPod.
