I have a 2011 KitchenAid microwave (khms2040wwh-1) that just died on me. I replaced a fuse, but it blew the second I tried to heat something. How do I trace the short? This oven has not been knocked about or previously worked on. I don't know how trace the source of the overload without taking the whole thing apart.

With the cover off, disconnect the primary of the power transformer. Now, with a good fuse try again. If the fuse blows again check the three microswitches in the latch assembly. If the fuse doesn't blow than the magnetron or diode are shorted.

SOURCE: Microwave keeps blowing fuse

If it went dead almost immediately after pressing the Start pad, that\'s usually a shorted high-voltage capacitor.

If it went dead a few seconds after pressing the Start pad, that\'s usually a failing high-voltage transformer.

We replaced the board behind the control panel. $130.00. If you do this make sure you can put the wires back the right way. My husband finally got it and our micro is working like brand newThanks to all who tried to help.

SOURCE: Microwave oven blowing 20 amp ceramic fuse

Chances are if the varistor fails, it fails drastically causing a short circuit across the supply. It will sit across the supply (it will look like a thick ceramic capacitor) and you can check for continuity after isolating that at one end. If it shows low resistance (it should show almost open circuit with a Digital meter), replace it.

It need not be the culprit. If you are familiar working with High voltage circuits ( they are lethal inside a microwave ovens as the current capability is high here), you can discharge the doubler capacitor and isolate the high voltage diode to check for shorts in the HT area.

9 amps is approx. correct. Does magnatron make an odd sound when running? If not, you will need to discharge cap then clean terminals with alcahol. Replace diode as well. Should run correctly. If blows again, replace magnatron. Suggest you put a 12 amp fast blow fuse in circuit and nor a 20 fuse.If you dont have a grill or an oven, use a 10 amp fuse.

Coffee spilled microwave while heating now microwave is dead it is a general spacemaker what can I do

Wow, generally a spill in a microwave shouldn't be catastrophic, but if it blew the wall plug, something bad happened. What do you mean it blew the plug? Did it simply trip a GFI? a breaker? Either way something must be amiss inside. Best case is a blown fuse in the microwave. You can look inside for evidence of a short but follow all safety practices and ensure the unit is depowered and steer clear of the big capacitor as it could still be charged.

My microwave went dead while heating up something what could it be

It probably blew the main fuse. Since it blew when it was running, it might indicate that the fuse holder isn't holding the fuse tightly enough; causing it to heat and internally melt.

You also could have some sort of failure, or failing component, in the high voltage circuit.

How do i replace a fuse on sunbeam microwave

If it does not heat, the magnetron tube died. Not worth repairing unless under warranty. Generally the only fuse is a main fuse. If it blew, the entire microwave would be dead.

KitchenAid KCM2145JSS-1 built-in Doesn't Heat

Everything working is a real good sign. Most likely all thats wrong with your unit is a blown fuse. Go to http://www.partselect.com/MultiModels.aspx?ModelNum=kcms145j&SearchTerm=fuse&RefineSearch=0 and you will find the fuse. It's behind the touch pad with most all the other workings. Very easy to replace and cost only $11.76. It looks like an old round glass car fuse but it's made just for micro waves. It's most likely a 20 amp fuse. To get to it, take all the screws out from the back that hols the case on. once you have removed the case you will be able to locate the fuse. Good luck.
