Sony 40 XBR tube cable bleeds through to inputs

I have a 7 year old 40 inch trinitron tube tv (300+ pounder). It has developed a problem in the last year where the cable input bleeds through to any other input I have selected. It is the video only, not the audio. So when we try to watch a dvd or play a video game, the cable video comes through. If I unplug the coax cable, the snow bleeds through. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

My experiance is to not put money into a TV that is over ten years old. TVs stress out their electronic components worse than almost any other electronic product. After 10 years, there are so many parts that are ready to fail that your are probably wasting your money trying to get any more life out of it.
Another option is to wholesale replace the main board by sending it to Module Exchange at 972-298-1212, or PTS Electronics 800-844-7871 ptscorp.com.
Be careful on buying a new one though. Often times, these new technology ones are much worse. Always Google the model number of the set you intend to buy and add the word 'repair' or 'complaint' to see if it is one of the many models that are customer service nightmares being produced by even the most reputable companies today.
Hope ya fix it!

SOURCE: Sony 36 Wega XBR Flat Screen - sudden death.

This could be a scan amplifier failure, and there is a loss of high voltage to the CRT. Part of the power supply may have also failed. In these sets, if the CRT emission goes low in emission, or the CRT goes defective, the bias supply to the CRT will go in to protect.

An experienced TV service tech can troubleshoot the set and give you an estimate for service. Considering the age of the set, the cost of service may not be worth it.

I just got a Sony Bravia 40 inch lcd 1080p high def tv. I am able to pick up a dvd picture on it, but I am having trouble finding my cable channels. I do have a cable box, and it is hooked in there...

When I installed my dads Samsung 40 lcd 120 hz. I had to turn it all off and after 5 mins I turned on the cable and then 5 minutes later I turned o the tv.

Or have you tried "searching" the tv for cable channel's?

Best thing to do is get 3-4 people to haul it to the curb. That is a high voltage failure which can be related to a bad tube or flyback. That TV is too old to get parts for and not worth spending a single dime on.

Sony Trinitron XBR, Stand By Mode?

The 6 or 7 blinks usually indicate a problem in the horizontal circuit. Since the TV recovered once, the problem is most likely to be a bad solder connection in that area. If you can solder, resolder any connections on the board that appear grainy or have rings. That may resolve the problem. If not, update this and we'll look elsewhere for defective parts.

Sony 57 Inch XBR 2001

I don't have the XBR, but on my sony, using the cable box remote, I had to go into menu/display/etc. and mark the 1080i, 720p, and 480i settings. you usually get a "if you can see this" comment if your tv accepts the settings. for standard tv i set the screen to normal, and when the upper channels go to HD, they auto go to full screen. Sounds like you are using the component cable, and also make sure you are on the video port of remote, and the the TV input. The above worked for mine. Hope it helps.

Sony trinitron xbr 32"

Did you correctly select the S-Video input on the TV via the remote? In other words, if the TV is not set to look at the S-Video input then nothing will happen. You have either an "input", "source" or tv/vcr button that will allow you to select what input the tv will look at for a signal. Make sure it's set to S-Video.
