Suddenly my Averatec won't start

Turned on my Avertec 3200 one morining and it would't start. Pushed power on, nothing, but I did hear faint high pitch sound. Tried sleep function key, nothing. Green light is on. Know it isn't power cord or battery, have two Avertec's. Is this hardware problem?

Averatec 3280, AMD Athlon, 1G RAM. I was working in Open Office 2.3 when suddenly there was this "pop!" and the thing went dead. I thought it might be overheated, so I waited a few hours and tried again. Nada. That was three days ago. The only sign of life is if I disconnect the AC line and pull the battery out an inch, the push it back in (to cut the current), when I push on I get about 2 seconds of familiar lights and sounds, then it cuts off again.

BTW, I've had this laptop for a couple of years and have always been happy with it.

Won't boot up even with new battery. Repair guy is mystified; should I send back to Averatec?

  • Anonymous May 10, 2008

The same faint buzz, sounds akin to a capacitor charging in a throw-away camera, scares me as I think it could be that the hard drive or Motherboard just crashed. Will try the battery thing tonight. Thanks

am trying to fix a laptop for a friend. he said (before he gave it to me) that it would shut off randomly, he thought it was the heat sink and fan letting it get to hot so got new ones and replace them. was still having a problem when he gave it to me, since it has been in my hands it hasnt turned on. tried new ram, tried boot to cd, checked to make sure he didnt unseat the cpu, have tried most everything i know how to do and all it gives me is blue power light and blue wifi light screen never blinks. please help before i kick it and tell him the mainboard died.

i have the same problem with my Averatec 2370. It used to shut off every now and then, but i would be able to turn it on with a couple of tries. Now the thing won't even turn on. I see the power and wifi lights, and i hear the HDD or the CD for a second. Once i got it to "turn on", but the screen never went on.

I'm hoping it's just the BIOS battery, because it never gets to loading the bios.

  • KorlaPlankto Feb 05, 2009

Averatec 2370.... Sometimes it will actually boot but I consider it a miracle when it does.

Press power, HDD light flashes and HDD starts to spin (you can hear it spin down when you kill the power) and the DVD drive 'grunts.' Nothing else. I've had it power itself off after a couple of minutes and I've had it stay running all night.

No more Averatec for this fickle consumer.

It was such a nice laptop when it was working. Now it's just a piece of poo. Yank the HD and use the rest of it for parts, I say.

Ok so I had the same problem with a 3150 and now I got a 3200 doing the same thing its a real small chip on the board that has come loose I fixed it on the 3150 but since the board might be different I was looking on the web for more detail I can't forget what the chip looks like and the best way to tell if you have this problem if push down hard on spots near the keyboard this will push the chip into the spot were it has been disconnected to and then the computer should start. Im going to take it apart now I might post an update but if you really want to know the turn out of all this e-mail me with the subject line AVERATEC and I will post a reply maybe even a picture [email protected]

Well I got it apart but I can not find the chip like the old one its getting late and I will have to try again tomorrow. I know the 3150 had the same problem and when I resoildered the chip it worked great for about 2 years then it got droped down the stairs and cracked in half..... the chip still worked though ;)

My Averatec did the same thing. Try turn it on (where nothing starts up, but the indicator lights do come on. Leaving it like this, walk away from it for about 3 or 4 minutes and then hold down the power button until all the lights go out. Then immediately turn it back on. It's not an answer to the problem, but it'll at least get it turned on.

It could be your Power Supply or your CMOS Battery is dead. For Power Supply, you can test by try to connect your Power Cord without battery to see for any PowerPush. If it is still not on then you can check your CMOS Battery for any failure by test the good one from other similar laptop since you had two. I hope this help.

I have an Averatec 3200 xp home edition. It was a gift. All that came with it was the power cord. How do i reset factory settings?

If laptops do not come with an installation disc, sometimes there is a setting in the BIOS which will allow reseting to factory settings. When the computer is first turned on, it will usually provide a specific key to access the BIOS or setup screen.

Avertec 2300 will only power on to a black screen and says Read disk error, press control alt, delete to reset, but when you do this the same thing apears over and over, Will not take any disk windows or...

Sorry, a Read Disk error means the disk is dead or dying. At a minimum, you have to reformat it and reinstall Windows. If it doesn't reformat, then you need a new hard drive.

Avertec 3200 won't reboot, white screen says NTDLR is missing

Ooops, if ntldr is missing, it means your operating system is dead. You should reinstall windows from cd. Must get into Bios to select first boot device as Cd and then press f10 and yes. When you start your lap it says you what key press to get to Bios or boot menager.

Hook up Avertec 3200 to Sharp Aqueous TV

After I found the manual somewhere on the internet, I realized that it is already available here. (Lucky you!)

I could not find a specific manual for your Aquos TV (which model?). Look into your manual, and see if there is an option to connect via VGA of HDMI for video
If you want to use your TV speakers, it depends what audio input options you have on your TV. You might need a cable like this:

The red/white connectors into your TV, the 2.5mm plug into your computer.

Laptop Averatec 3200 PC Notebook

Try having the problem devices turned on and plugged into the USB port(s) and then start or restart your PC.

This should cause Windows to recognize them and install drivers if available from its library.

It may also ask for an installation disk if it cannot identify the device.

Power jack problem

You didn't mention the model so here's some information that might help you with the dis-assembly process. You might want to use a digital camera to document your dis-assembly. The pix will make it a lot easier to do the re-assembly. PS, when you finally get it back together and working, invest in a good CRD (Cable Retention Device) to take the strain off the pin and keep you from having to do the job again. I use and recommend this product.

Where is the cmos battery on the Averatec 3200

I can't find step by step instructions for dismantling your laptop (I found them for a Toshiba), but in general the CMOS battery on any PC is on the motherboard (this includes laptop motherboards). You'll have to take the system apart, including taking the keyboard out, etc. etc. to get to it. Take a look at how a Toshiba 6100 is taken apart for an example: http://www.irisvista.com/tech/laptops/Toshiba6100/Toshiba_Satellite_Pro6100_dismantle_1.htm It's not for the faint of heart so I'd recommend taking it to a local repair shop ...

It won't turn on!

Flashing green battery means it is in suspend mode. Pushing the power button should bring it out of suspension, however, one of the reasons I deactivate both suspend and hibernate mode is because the seldom work right. I would disconnect your A/C power cord and remove your battery from the laptop. After about 30 seconds plug them back in and your commuter should start again. Let us know how things go.
