Don't know what a fwc100 is but you need to finalize the disc per procedure outlined in the manual- that writes the TOC (table of Contents) to the inner part of the disc which the unit reads right after the disc is recognized by the laser. If the disc is not finalized this TC is not written and you have a disc that can still be written to in certain burning units.

SOURCE: TEAC CD-P1260

Identical problem with my 4-month old player. I mailed the unit to the repair shop noted on their web page (Montebello, CA). They "re-soldered a loose connection" and made a "mechanical adjustment". I got the player back in two days. It now works fine (again). Under warrenty; no charge.

Sounds like a duff (dirty or scratched) disc. Try another one.

SOURCE: MY CD PALYER DOES NOT WORK. ''DISC NOT FINALIZED'' IS DISPLAYED.

If your CD player has been working for many hours and cleaning the lens didn't help, then the next thing to do is changing the spindle motor (the one that spins the disc), since the brushes and the commutator get dirty/oxydized with many hours of performance.

The motor can also be cleaned, but it's kinda complicated and delicate to do it, so you might want to change it instead.

The same holds for the slide motor (the motor that changes the position of the laser pickup).

To clean the motor you need to desolder/remove it and open it up (you need to bend out the clamped parts on the motor housing to release the cover - also, mark the position of the cover so you can put it back in place in the same position as it was prior to opening it - some motors have an indentation so that the cover fits in place in only one position).

Then you need to remove the cover (this is a delicate procedure as you can easily damage the brushes).

You can clean the brushes and the commutator using a long pointed scalpel - gently scrub away the brownish/black residues on both the brushes and the commutator.

Now you need to put the motor back together, taking care not to damage the brushes when you put the cover back in place (kinda tricky but it can be done).

After closing it, see if it runs smoothly, you may want to try and run it on some 3 volts - it must run quite silently, with no more than a gentle humming sound.

If it runs ok, you should use a tiny flat screwdriver and a small hammer to bend the housing edge back onto the cover to fix it in place (basically, you need to rehammer back in the clamps that held the cover in place, this is also a bit tricky and delicate thing to do).

Now reinstall/resolder the motor back in place (motors on some brands/models can be worked without removing them).

Well, i've just told you how i repaired quite some CD drives which were virtually dead, i'm actually still using a yamaha which is more than 15 years old (i myself have been using it for at least 10 years now), i got it as a scrap piece, it returned to life after the above described procedure and it actually works perfectly up to date.

Anyway, i guess the easy way is to simply replace the motors (they need to have the same axis dimensions and mount holes as the original ones, also they need to run on the same voltage - things to keep in mind when you are looking for new motors).

Hope you can get it working...

good luck

Hi,
It sounds like you haven't followed the last step to the burning procedure. All you need to do once you've completed burning your disc is to Finalize the disc. Read below why you need to finalize as well as the steps to follow in order to finalize the disc.
Hope this helps ;)
How to Finalize Finalizing is writing the TOC (table of contents) on a disc so a CD player can recognize the number of tracks, the total time for each track, and their location on the disc. A recorded disc must be finalized to playback on a standard CD player. Once finalized a CD-R disc can be played on CD players that support CD-R playback. CD-RW discs can only be played on CD players that support CD-RW playback. Consult your CD player owner's manual to confirm supported formats. Finalizing is necessary to: • be able to play a recorded CD-R or CD-RW disc on a CD player • prevent further recording on a disc • avoid erasing tracks on a CD-RW disc • record text information onto a disc you record Notes: • A finalized CD-R disc can never be recorded onto again. • A finalized CD-RW disc can be unfinalized for more recording. • The CDR300 can play back unfinalized CD-R or CD-RW discs. • SYNC REC+FINAL mode automatically finalizes.
Here are the steps in order to Finalize your disk
1 Push Stop. The display shows the number of tracks and their total playing time. 2 Push FINALIZE. FINALIZE is displayed for about 3 seconds.

Just bought a used sony cfd-c1000. It will play most of my burned cd's but not one specific one: they are all on cd-r and I burned them all the same way with the same program, any ideas why it won't work?

My first two thoughts are: 1) It's a defective disc or 2) The disc wasn't finalized after it was burned. CD-R discs will not play on any machine other than the one that they were recorded on until they are finalized on that recorder. If it will play on the recorder and it has been finalized then just burn another copy of it. I have seen disc compatibility issues on one disc out of a stack of 100 before.

I have an HP Pavilion mx704 desktop PC 2005 model, and I can not burn music onto a CD. This computer has a CD burner, and when I start burn of the downloaded song, it says insert disk, I put a blank CD-R...

What OS and burn software are you using? Can you see the music files when you look at the file explorer on the computer (My Computer or Computer in Windows and double click on the optical drive)? Check if the disc has any scratches.

If you see the music listed on the optical disc, check if the disc was finalized. (Again in Windows Computer, right click on the optical drive and it should be an option if the disc hasn't been finalized.)

If there are no files on the CD-R, make certain that the disc isn't being formatted before you try the burn. (Formatting should only be done on R/W discs.)

If the music files are on the optical disc and the disc was finalized, your CD player is not tracking across the disc properly. Try a lens cleaner. It may need repair and I've never successfully repaired a CD drive (the only ones I've had fail were in computers and were cheaper to replace). The mirror and the belt are the most likely places to have issues.

I hope this helps.

I insert a disc that is pre recorded into side a and insert a blank cdrw into side b and its telling me unreadable disc?

Which one is unreadable? The pre-recorded disc must have been finalized. Where was it recorded?

The blank must have the word "audio" somewhere in its type definition.

"disc not finalized"

In order for that CD to play, it has to be finalized on the same device that you used to record the CD, be it a computer or a CD recorder. Consult the recorder's directions for instructions on how to finalize the disc - or tell us the model number of the device you did to do the recording, and we can tell you how to finalize the disc.

Finalizing Discs

The only reason that you have to finalize a DVD-R disc is so that you can play it back in an external DVD. Once finalized, you can no longer add motion video to that particular disc. Discs that are not finalized can still be played back when inserted in the DVD-camcorder.
