I found the solution to
this problem: To get your iPod
Nano 3rd Generation (4GB video) to be recognized by your computer, you will
need to manually get it into "Disk Mode" here's how:
Verify that it has a full
charge, if not, you need to either charge the iPod before continuing or
connect it to a high-powered USB port, or simply connect it to the Power
Adapter that plugs into an electrical outlet. (just not connected to your
computer)
Toggle the Hold switch on and
off once. (Set it to Hold, and then turn it off again. Just slide back and
forth.)
Press and hold the Menu and
Select (center) buttons at the same time for at least 6 seconds until the
Apple logo appears.
When the Apple logo appears,
release the Menu and Select (center) buttons and immediately press
and hold the Select (center) and the Play/Pause buttons until the ‘Disk
Mode’ screen appears.
Disconnect your iPod from the
power adapter and connect it to your computer;
Now the screen on the iPod will
change and say "Do not disconnect" and should be recognized by
your computer.
I hope this helps you; I
had a hard time finding a solution and thought I'd share the wealth once my
stress was relieved.
Hi, If you are using a desktop computer, try charging your ipod by connecting it to the USB ports at the rear of the computer.. and charge it for atleast for 5 to 8 hrs...
We have to try connecting thr ipod to computer and charge it for atleast 4 to 8 hrs in the begining.. Then install the latest version of itunes form www.apple.com/download/itunes
After that connect the ipod to ur computer USB port (Desktop:connect at the rear USB port) Then set it up.
By pressing the center button and the menu button the same time and holding it for around 6-10 seconds, your device should turn on. You then should be able to access your files and charge your ipod.
Try these options i got them from apple when my ipod dident work trying a new port and reinstalling itunes worked for me
1)Reset your iPod.
2)Retry with a different USB or FireWire port.
3)Restart your computer and make sure you have the latest software updates installed.
4)Remove iTunes software and then reinstall iTunes software from latest versions on the web.
last resort
5)Restore your iPod. See ?Updating and Restoring iPod Software? in the user's guide.
