Blu-Ray player not reading Blu-Ray movie

Sharp Blu-Ray player (BD-HP21U) will not read Blu-Ray movie. Previews start, but once it gets to the movie, it's a blank screen forever. Will read old DVD no problem...

I tried to load the update with the USB and it won't recognize the file. It keeps saying there is no file on the USB. So, i bought another USB, same thing, then I re-downloaded the update from another site to see if it weould be different. Nope, can you suggest anything. Sharp didn't know why when I spoke to them?

My Sharp Blue Ray will play previews but will not play movie

  • Anonymous Feb 22, 2009

My Sharp only plays about half the Blueray discs I rent. I have updated the firmware to the latest. Seems bogus to me and is incredibly frustrating. I may be uninformed - but if this is how Blueray is then the technology should not have been released until it was standardized/stable.

I HAVE DOWNLOADED THE FIRMWARE UPDATE FIVE TIMES ON TWO DIFFERENT USB MEMORY STICKS AND TOOK EVERYTHING ELESE OFF ONE OF THEM AND THE AQUAS BLUE RAY WILL NOT RECOGNIZE ANY OF THEM.

  • chemico Mar 03, 2009

On most of the Blue-Ray movies that I rent, my Blu-Ray Player has choppy video feed, and freezes VERY frequently for 5-10 seconds. VERY frustrating. I downloaded the latest firmware (from Feb 2009) and it didn't help. I'm very disappointed with sharp. I will never buy their product again !

  • Anonymous Mar 22, 2009

same darn problem! it will play previews beautifully and then quit at the menu. When we first got it (x-mas) it played most of the discs, stopping for a few seconds here and there--now, we've had to completely stop renting/buying anything blu-ray. Shame on SHARP!

It will only play for 22 seconds & screen will go black

DVD will load and read, but will not play. Checked other DVD and it will work fine.

    Does the upload atleast help?

  • Anonymous Apr 06, 2009

no, it's just a lousy product. updates don't make it better. I returned mine for service, all they did was 'update firmware' and return it as defective as before. to sell defective products, and back them up with defective service, is unacceptable. there are many complaints about this item. sharp needs to recall these things.

I had the same problem, just bought the stupid thing and went out and rented a movie and it wouldnt play the thing. So i went online and downloaded the newest update on a usb memory stick, updated it on the player and it finally worked...kind of...now i have picture and some sound but I cant hear the words...very frustrating for a new product

I had the same problem - Fix - Go to the sharp web site and download the file HP21U_HP50U_PN902270. You will need to make sure your thumb drive is no bigger than 4gb and you do not have any other files on it. Once you download the file on the thumb drive, you will need to unzip the file on the same thumb drive. The zip file is one of the new ones, so you might need to go to the web and get a shareware program that will open it. After this - turn your player on and go to setting, next scroll down to update firmware, insert the drive and tell it OK, it will ask you if this is OK, tell it OK and it will upgrade the firmware in about 2 min. I have already done this with 3 other players with no problem. Good luck. The sharp web site is sometimes a little hard to find and to me was not the most user friendly. good luck [email protected]

Go to sharps website and download updated firmware version for your model, then transfer the file to the blu ray using a usb mass storage device. I had to do that to mine it would not play new blu rays and i just bought the darn thing should've come updated. Good luck!

I am seeking software update for my BD-HP210U Blu-Ray Player.

You should have an option in the menu which says Update Firmware, failing that the Sharp website will have the update which can be burnt to disc and inserted into your player.

Put blue ray disk in my sharp bdhp21 blue ray

Could be one of three problems.

1 - The disk is in upside down. Try turning it over.

2 - The disk is bad. Take it back to where you purchased it and get a refund / exchange.

3 - The BR player is faulty. If you have played disks in this unit before, try another disk and see if it will play. If THAT disk plays, see #2 above. If it doesn't, and you get the same error, then the unit needs technical servicing.

I have a sharp bd-hp21u model blu-ray disc player. I am trying to use a brand new blu-ray disc. However, it will only play for 17 seconds and goes blank. What shd I do? It will play regualr dvd's.

Verify version of the firmware, if it is older then PN9062300, you will have to upgrade it. Newer version of the firmware can be found here. For instruction on upgrade procedure refer to the owner's manual.

I have a aquos bluray modle # HP21U 810803152

Hello, we had the same problem with District 9. If your in uk you need to go to http://www.sharpelectronics.info/Software.aspx, select the sharp bd player make e.d. BDHP21H and select download to your desktop. If you not in uk go to the sharp web site relevant to your country. Once download is complete you need to extract files (they are zipped). In our case there were three files downloded, one being directions, the 2nd the actual software update and the 3rd something th do with version numbers. Once unzipped copy and paste the file ending in .RVP only to your usb/pen drive. Now insert the usb/pen drive into the bd player and follow the set up instructions. IN the case of our bd player (which is a different make to yours) we selected set up, software update and then just followed the directions from there. But probably best you follow the instructions given by sharp on thedownload. Best of luck.
