Netbook won't connect to my home network

reinstall windows or go back to factory settings.

first of all make sure your wifi is turned on. In the lower right tool bar next to the time & date, click on the wifi, click open network & sharing. Click manage wireless networks. Hilight each and remove until it is completely empty. Restart your computer & you should be fine. If not there is a physical problem with your wifi.

That means there is a corrupt or a missing wireless driver on your new acer laptop. First of all if you are using Windows XP follow the following
1. Go to start
2. Right-click on "My computer"
3. Go to "Properties
4. Go to Hardware tab
5. Go to Device manager
In the device manager check for any yellow question mark or an exclamation mark. Especially on the network adapters. That means if you had the network drivers working before, then they are corrupt or they are not there at all.

visit acer.com and go to their downloads and support tab, you will be abel to see the model of your computer and you can download the wireless drivers that are compatible with your laptop.

Wait for the little computer icon in the lower right corner to show two radiating side waves with a red X under the icon. The red X indicates that the WiFi has not connected. double click on the Computer icon and a window opens up with RT28701 as the header, with all zeros in the fields.Click on the tab Wireless Information. and a new window opens up. Perhaps, it just needed a new IP address. Simply rebooting the computer and resetting the IP Address of the computer took care of the issue.

That sounds like symptoms of Manufacturer & Windows drivers conflicting. Try uninstall the Manufacturer Drivers and let the windows ones do the work, and see how that goes down.

ok. try this:
open a computer on your network that connects to the network. start -> run -> type cmd and click enter.
then type ipconfig /all
then open your laptop.. go to local area connection and click properties.
click internet protocol on the list and then properites.
click on "use the following ip"
and on the three text boxes below type the same settings as the ones that appear on the pc that you did ipconfig /all. the only differnt will be the ip address. if the pc is 192.168.0.105 you should put 192.168.0.106 or something else.
do the same with dns server.
click ok to close all the opened windows and check the new ip of the laptop

Most Acers use an IPN2220 Wireless card. Go through the settings on your husband's notebook settings for your home network and set your Dell up the same way. You will need to know the SSID for the wireless network, security type and key to set it up.

Have you entered the security details regarding your network connection into your new netbook.

Detect the network and enter the security key (WEP;WAP etc) and should work
