Are you using the correct tape? If you try and use an LTO3 or LTO4 tape then it will just eject.

Does the drive make a clattering sound when first turned on and it goes through its POST ?

If the answer is YES then the drive has had a damaged tape loaded into it and the drive now needs repair.

Goto www.tape-drive-repair.com for repair or replacement options as these are quite inexpensive these days

Also try inspecting your media as per the guide here.
http://tape-drive-repair.com/tools-and-information/lto-media-inspection-guide/

If you find any damaged tapes then make sure to throw them away as should you reload these tapes they will go on to break your LTO drive again.

it asking you to overwrite because that is how you set up the backup job. Setup a new backup job using append instead of normal backup and the message will go away. Its not problem its a feature to prevent you from overwriting data.

Try holding the eject button down, for a long time, about 20 seconds (1 and 2 and ). This resets the tape drive, the lights on the front should go off, then come back on again. The tape will either eject automatically or will eject after the button is pressed normally.
The only time this dosen't work is if the tape is still out inside the drive.

Use Library and Tape Tools (L&TT) to upgrade to the latest firmware
This is especially important if the problem with an Ultrium 215 or Ultrium 230 (LTO Generation 1). Outdated firmware in these models can often give load problems.
New revisions of firmware are released to fix issues that have been found since product launch. Some of these are firmware defects and some are additional functionality to deal with new drivers, server or application behavior etc. It is always recommended to ensure your drive has the latest released firmware from HP.
All firmware releases are tested thoroughly by HP and drives will only accept firmware that is intended for them - they will reject the wrong version - so don't worry, this is not a risky process.
Whenever you perform a firmware upgrade make absolutely sure that the upgrade process is complete before power-cycling the drive. If the drive is power-cycled while the upgrade process is still in operation the firmware could be corrupted resulting in a dead drive.
Ensure you have the most up-to-date drivers for your device.
If you do not already have L&TT click here to download
Click here for the L&TT FAQ. (www.hp.com/support/lttfaq) Look for How do I verify that my drive's firmware is up to date? in the contents.

Tape cannot eject

This is usually because it is in use still. If you cannot see anything still trying to access the drive (backup software for eaxmple) you could try powering down the tape unit and rebooting the machine that it is plugged into the turn the tape unit back on and see if it will now eject.

Thanks

if the tape can not eject by press the button, you can only unload it manually, but you'd better ask an expert to do it, such as me, haha.

Tape jammed. How can it be manually ejected?

Most or all robotic librarys must have the cover removed.  There is not "automatic" way to unjam the tape picker.

Ultrium tape stuck

I highly recommend that you contact Certance for assistance. Tape drives are expensive and you don't want to risk damaging it.

If you are feeling brave you could see if you can manually eject the tape.
Remove the tape drive from the chassis and look for a manual rewind screw on the bottom or back of the drive. This is provided on some drives to allow you to manually wind the tape back into the cartrige and eject it.

I hope this helps.
