Hi I have a horizon 4000htm treadmill , which powers up fine all the lights come on the console , but when you press the speed button the circuit breaker on the main board blows and the fuse in the plug blows . I have removed the cover and everything looks okay , the main circuit board has 3 red lights which are constantly lit (before the power blows ). Does anyone have any suggestions ?

The only weak spot on the main controller board is the small rechargeable battery or a lithium button cell.
The memory battery is to keep the parameter information.
When the battery is damaged the liquid (electrolytic) drips downward on to other electronic items.
Any items under the "drip" pathway will need to be inspected and clean.
The battery can be on the front or rear on the main board,
Spend some time to locate this battery,
A simple $12 item can stop the unit from operating!
Please email me the part number or spec, info on the battery on reply.

Unplug your treadmill and remove motor shroud ,locate Motor control board their a series of LEDs . Now without getting on treadmill hit start look down and you should a light starting to flicker this is your PWM signal, t the upper console sends a signal to the lower board and instructs the motor to start. This tells me that the upper board and cable are functioning properly and our problem is either the board or motor.
DC motors can be easily tested in a number of ways. Many times a motor is replaced only to find another problem exists so be sure to test the motor if you think it is a problem.
Methods to test a motor:
1)
Cordless drill battery- get a fully-charged, 18 volt (preferred) cordless drill battery and on most treadmills connect the red and black motor leads to the battery (some have different colors but if you have two wires and get it hooked up backwards, the motor will just run backwards and won’t be harmed). If good, the motor should operate at about 1 MPH.
2)
Car battery- these are 12VDC high amp batteries so the motor will turn slowly but you can walk on the belt. Always be careful with battery acid on these things so we don’t recommend bringing them in the house…take the treadmill to the battery.
If the motor test good then all fingers point to the Motor Control Board replace the board. When was the last time lubricated the running deck?
Answer: Never ! Then I suggest you purchase lubricant and apply it on the deck about 75% to 85% of the problems are belt and deck related.
Testimonial: "Many thanks for prompt response, seems that the treadmill works only when in the upright position and not the horizontal as per normal. Gonna have to learn to run up walls i guess"

Check the treadmill "continuity" , the treadmill connections correctly grounded. If that is checked ok then either the outlet itself is bad .Try plugging the treadmill on another stronger outlet, such as a kitchen outlet..But if its still shorting out and blowing the fuse then its internal motor problem. The motor or its wiring is got weak,so when you press the start button the motor starts and treadmill turns off and blow fuse.--------- This should help.Thanks.Helpmech.

hi.
the circuit breaker probably only covers the motor anyway, and if this is the case then the problem has been isolated already.
it sounds like the motor has burnt out, and there is a short in it somewhere. the best (and safest) thing to do is to remove the motor and either just replace it, or have it tested by an electrician.
most repair shops will happily test a motor for free if you take it to them. it should only take a few minutes.
take the circuit breaker to them as well, as it is possible to have a faulty circuit breaker.
please feel free to ask if you need more advice.
hope this helps
